neville island turkey vultre

was on neville island main drag yesterday.  saw large black bird flying which i assumed was a crow.  then i noticed that it had a red bare head.  i think that this is a turkey vulture.  wondering if i am correct and if anyone else has seen it?

Not sure about Neville Island, or if they are technically turkey volchures, but I see them all of the time.  Usually see 5-10 of them flying in circles above their future meal.  Almost always have red heads if you see them up close.

turkey vultures have a pretty unique way of coasting in the air and they have a tendency to wobble back and forth in the air while they are looking for their food.

Sounds like a turkey vulture, you may need to move a little quicker if you see are attracting them...

I like to feed them as often as I can with battered ground hogs that I shoot on some of the local farms. Young ones should start exploring adding fodder to the mix. Fox clean them up also.

I'm sure it was. Are you new to the area or something?  Turkey vultures are everywhere you go. I doubt you can drive 5 miles along any of the river without seeing one, and probably dozens.   There pretty much around everywhere else also.   The big birds you see gliding in the air that rock back and forth from side to side are most often Turkey vultures.

Turkey vulture for sure.  I live near a roost, and have gone there several times in the evening to watch them come in.  They can make quick work of messes on the road way.  I should mention that I have been seeing several Bald Eagles around the Yough Reservoir in the last 2 years.  It was a surprise to see them circling overhead, and a real treat hearing them calling to one another.  What a beautiful animal.  Another bird that I see from time to time is loons at Highpoint lake.  They seem to only be there in the spring, and Highpoint is the only place I've seen them in the area, though I'm sure they are in other places as well.  It's a real treat hearing them call in the morning mist as well.
