Nice Brookie

Went back home to do some turkey hunting over the weekend and made it out on big fishing creek, just outside of Benton PA, for a couple hours Saturday afternoon. Water was a little high and swift but the color was good. Only caught two fish, but this 19" brookie was one of them. It was a personal best brookie for me, caught him on a redfin minnow:

    great STOCKIE thank the PAF&BC.

I think the PFBC is doing a great job with the trout/steelhead programs in our state. My thanks certainly goes out to them. PA has one of the better state run stocking programs in the country, keep up the good work guys!

That probably would have been my first mounted fish, if it was a holdover and didn't have raceway fins. Unfortunately looks like it was just stocked this year so I didn't have it done.

I do have an idea for another mount that I'm definitely going to have done though. I'd like to get one decent wild brown, from fishing creek near state college, chasing two smaller native brookies around a log. Maybe take a fishing trip with my father up around our old cabin this summer and each keep one native for the mount.

If you feel bad depleting the native bookie population at your cabin, you could always take some good photos and have the natives done totally artificial. If you find a real pro, they look better than a traditional skin mount anyway. Don't forget you can always provide rocks, and other structure to use in the mount as well. If you collect the stuff your self, it might make the whole project a little more sentimental.

    Nice brookie,
They could had repaired the fins if you wanted to mount it. A good taxi guy can do a lot.
People bash the stockies, I really don't know why. I love wild and native fish, way more than the stockies. But if I can hit a local stream with stockies for an hour or so on my way home after work one or two days a week. Or for a few hours on the weekend. It makes Momma and the kids a lot happier than me driving two hours each way for somew natives or wild fish.
I like getting out to fish and not thinking about anything other than fishing, thats it for me.
But with anything, everybody has an opionin and the right to chose how they want to fish and also what kind of fish. But it doesn't make you a better person just because you choose a certain style or type of fish.
The PFBC do a pretty good job ! It could be worse, we are one of the few states that have seperate organizations for game & fish.

That is a nice brookie. I have it on good authority that in a certain hatchery there are several swimming that could pass the current by 2oz or more.

Won't hear me stockie bashing. Heading out Sat AM for my fix as it won't last too long. Like others have said, when you're on a stream thinking of nothing but the drift; wild, native, stocked....who cares.
