Pymatuning Crk(Orangeville) White bass?

Has anybody been having luck with the white bass and/or hybrids in Pymatuning Creek below the dam to the lake? I fished it about 2 weeks ago and only caught 2 little crappie, then fished it today and caught a few little perch and gills, had a carp on, and got a decent pike, but where are all the white bass at? Was the run early this year with all the crazy weather we have been having, or did the run not start yet? I talked to a few other people there and they didn't catch or see anyone catch any yet either.

Any insight is apreciated.

Here's the pike...

They always start running in May after the first full moon. Keep trying, they'll start hitting soon.

White bass? Really? Guess I've been fishin' Erie too long, we never (rarely) keep them. Do you eat them or just fish for them during the run for the fun of it? I did keep a good sized on once and filleted it up along with a batch of perch and walleye, was pretty nasty looking next to the other fillets...

I think I'll give it another go maybe next weekend. bulldog1, I have never kept any white bass before, I just fish for them for fun. I've heard from some people they are pretty good eating, not like walleye or perch, but still ok. Then I heard from other guys that they taste terrible. I guess you have to put them on ice right away and eat them when they're fresh.

There meat is mushy. I,m not a fan of them but a blast to catch. They aren,t really going up the creeks this year. Not sure why but like wooden bobber said...they are hitting in the lake. Good luck..:)

I think they are a very good eating fish. Word of caution, don't put them on a stringer and throw them into the muddy river. The mud will get on them and ruin the meat. I learned that lesson first hand.

They are a blast to catch. Their feeding frenzies are exciting to watch in the summer months in the lakes.

Well, it was definitely on yesterday. Caught maybe 20 or so and just about everyone else caught a bunch. Went again today and caught 1 crappie and a perch, no white bass. There were a bunch of other guys out today also and I didn't see them catch any whites either. Does anyone know how the fishing was during the week? It's hard to believe they could of moved out already.

Because of the poor fishing there, I decided to hit the Shenango River and managed to get one white bass, a decent gill, and three hybrids. Nothin huge, but they definitely put up a fight!
