night fishing at mammoth

Me and my girlfriend went night fishing at mammoth tonight and caught two little bullheads on chicken liver, She caught the bigger one lol. Also had a very large fish that just about pulled all my line out on my special corn bait but whatever it was just snapped my line with ease when I got it somewhat close.. not sure what it was, probably a big carp and of course it was on my rod with light 8lb test line, I have 30lb braid on the rod I was fishing chicken liver with. It gave me a run for my money while I had it lol

with those carp you just have to let em run and tire themselves out. dont set your drag too tight, 8lb line is usually plenty strong for catching carp, even big ones.

I think it caught in a bed of weeds or something because all i pulled in was my slip sinker and a handful of weeds

Although I have caught a lot of carp on 4&6# line ,sometimes you run out of line by letting them run while using lite gear. I got spooled Fri. eve. at Lower twin by a very large Carp while I was using my ultra light with 4# line and a Jig & Bobber & approx. 150 yds of line on my reel. That drag was screaming & the line was coming off so fast that I burned my finger trying to feather the spool. Was a thrill tho.lol The carp are starting to spawn now there. sam

I've been seeing some huge carp up at twin lately, I'm hoping to catch one before I head back home for the summer. Do you guys use doughballs or chicken livers, I've just been trying nightcrawlers but no dice

Mammoth is weed choked. A 10 lb carp can easily become a 20 lb carp in the weeds. Sad how this lake has gone downhill the past couple of years. Some big snapping turtles in here too, maybe one of them got a hold of your bait.....although they generally don't "spool" your rod.

FYI - there are 25 lb carp in this lake.

I once landed a 16lber there on a grasshopper gill fishing. On my noodle rod w 4lbtest. Luckily he buried himself in some weeds about 30ft out and stopped, I was able to very slowly drag him and another 10lb of weeds back to shore. Still my heaviest fish on 4lb line.
