Yough

Anyone know the reason for the big increase in the flow yesterday? No rain at all and the CFS at Ohiopyle went from about 1050 to what looks like almost 1500 in a matter of minutes. My cousin was fishing down Ohiopyle on a rock and about got taken out. He called me and told me about it and I looked on the water gage and I don't remember a spike like that ever. Even when we get rain and they increase the flow, it is typically a gradual increase. I understand you kinda fish at your own risk down there but this seems pretty extreme.

Check it out from yesterday. This is the gage at Ohiopyle.

There was also a spike in the water flow below the Dam at Confluence. Must have been for a short period of time because the discharge is at 250 now and that is very low. Maybe they were trying to blow some of that green moss out of the river below the dam.

Sounds like a great way to exterminate all fish life...

I know they pump it up during/after rain but for unsuspecting people on the river downstream can be dangerous on a sunny day to jack it up like that.

Do the long strands of green grass(weeds)below the outflow and to the bridges make for poor fishing conditions. Was there last week and went down-stream and waded back almost to the R/R bridge and saw no sign of fish, crawfish, or minnows. Felt like I was fishing the Cassleman in it's mine drainage days. Also was there when they stocked trout below the out flow and saw how fast 8 buckets of fish can leave the area. What puzzles me is that of all the fish I saw put in and the only place that held any was the out-flow area and the fast water just below it. This is supposed to be prime water. No life and full of heavy grass and weeds is not prime water to me.

I'm not sure how far downstream the "gunk" goes from the outflow. It isn't bad down in Ohiopyle, and I hope it stays that way. Pretty miserable fishing up around the outflow right now.
