Yea just ran across that one. Looks pretty sweet! Is it a one time fee or a annual charge?

You'll find these are pretty redundant for most features but I've been using them all:
    Marine Weather by Bluefin
    Radio NOAA
    Weather Bug
Weather - by Weather Underground (wunderground.com)
The Weather Network (only one that forecasts past 7 days I think, not that I trust it)

    Also worth a look:
Knot Wars (more for prepping for your trip)
    KnotsGuide (ditto)
    PocketRanger (PA State Parks)
Deluxe Moon Free (if you buy into that kinda witchcraft voodoo peak fishing times)
    Fish Time Lite (ditto)

They're not all necessarily winners. I haven't had the privilege to use them on the lake yet, but I will soon. Still looking for a good mapping / GPS app. I searched for Navionics a few weeks ago and couldn't find one for lake maps. I read they pulled it, possibly to fix some bugs. Still don't see anything for Great Lake or US Lakes. There is one $50 app, I forget the name...

I'm using rental boats on Presque Isle and I'd really like an app that shows GPS with plot points and bottom structure. Might be willing to pay a bit for one if anyone has one to recommend!

I have the Navionics app. It's a 1 time fee the only down side is that it use to give detailed contours of lake erie but one time I updated the app and now it won't show them anymore. When I contacted them I was told I had to buy the Canada part of the app. I haven't done that yet. On a side not its been great for chautauqua lake.

Weatherbug, the free version. Live motion radar helps let you know where the weather is and where it's going. I have 4 or 5 screens worth of apps on my iPhone and haven't paid for one yet... Yes, I'm cheap...

I've also used 5-0 Radio on the lake to find out what the "Great Fuzzie Fire" was...

Nuke, I never did understand that. We can get a signal on land 10 miles from a tower, inside a building, but go out about 10 miles out on the Lake with no obstructions and loose it.

Split shot... I've noticed the same... and wondered if it has more to do with our proximity to the Canadian border than it does our distance to the tower. Gotta wonder what the rules are about the use of tower signals that close to the border, and how strong those signals are allowed to be to prevent interference with communication towers on the Canadian side.

It's pretty much just on Erie when I'm on Ontario Salmon Fishing my cell picks up the Canadian towers and I have signals all the way to the Line. It is further across on some points but oh well, gonna have to give up all your secrets on the radio...

another cool app I found today, not a fishing app or weather, its called Voxer. It reminds me like how the Nextel phones were. Its a FREE app that you can send a voice message like a text. Plus pix and normal texts to those that have the app of course.

Fishhead.....is a great app for stream guys. Tells you water levels and flow of all streams with a usgs gauge. Weather, barometric pressure, predictions on stream levels from the weather. Pretty cool stuff. Think its 6 bucks

Just added a few more, might be worth a look: Wind NOAA / realWind (search under "FlyToMap"). A very quick look at current wind conditions. Is it accurate?

WindAlert: Very detailed on recorded winds, but I don't think it has forecasts. After messing with the options, you can add radar and lake depths. Looks like the use the NOAA charts as an overlay. Would love to hear what some others think of this. Unfortunately, it seems to crash often with all options turned on.

And Google Earth - what a sweet view of the lake! Love how you can zoom around and scope out the shoreline and PIB from any angle. Thanks for the tips to whomever posted these.

Still debating purchasing Naviaonics. I'd go with U.S. Canada Lake Maps so I could get Erie. Is it really worth the $15 just for Erie? I emailed them requesting info and wanted to be sure Erie depths weren't included in the U.S. only version. Haven't heard back yet.

you might want to just give navionics a call. Not much of a wait time and they are very informative. Ive been on the phone with them this past week because we bought a new chip for our sonar/chart-plotter unit. Great CS. I asked them about the difference between the USA and the USA and Canada app. She said that the only difference for Lake Erie would be that the USA app wouldn't contain information for lake Erie past the Canadian border where the Canada app contains all of lake Erie. I did ask about the contour data between the two and she said it was identical other than the border thing. But what papinner said about losing contours after an update with USA app and that he had to also get the Canada part. Might as well just get the USA and Canada app.
    US Toll Free: 800-848-5896

I did end up downloading the wunderground app. Its pretty good. It gives wind readings, radar and a bunch of different view. plus its free.

Thanks Rough House. Good advice, I'll just call, glad to hear they have quality CS.

I'm not going to need the Canada side of Erie anytime soon though, since I'm only renting boats and hopping on a buddy's bass boat on occasion. Usually I stay within a 500 yards of shore, and no more than 3-4 miles from PIB. Would be nice to save a few and get the U.S. only.

I do take an annual Canada fishing trip so it might be worth it just for that, but even then we mostly use guides.

I have an Android phone, but a lot of the apps are available for iPhone as well. I use My-Cast Weather and purchased a lightning plugin for it that shows every lightning strike for the last hour or so on a map. I use that all the time in the summer when you see a storm coming across the lake to determine if it has lightning in it.

Another cool app I use on slow days is called Marine Traffic. If you see a big ship out there you can see what its name is, how big, how fast its traveling, where its coming from, where its going, close up pictures of it...etc.

For marine forecasts I just have bookmarks set in my phone's browser:
    http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/LE/169.html for Lake Erie
    http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/LO/062.html for Lake Ontario

No problem. The USA map is 9.99 and USA and Canada is 14.99. I asked her if you bought the USA map and later needed the canada is there an upgrade for canada? She said no, you would have to buy both so the USA and Canada seem to me to be the best bet.

    Troller,
Great Idea for the Marine Weather Forecast. I didn't even think about that. Just added it to my phone.
    Thanks

Downloaded "regatta" last night. best app to use for trolling. Gives you mph in tenths. And provides a live navigation compass with degrees so you can stay in a straight line. Im just running a 20 ft deep v with a fish finder and gauges, so having this app really helped.

I would recommend you invest in a GPS unit if you're fishing Lake Erie very much. I've had a couple of occasions where it would have been pretty scary without one. Once because of motor trouble and we didn't get back in till way after very dark and another time when fog rolled in. Should also have a compass, at least you can head south and find US soil...
