Hopefully the first of many

I've spent ALOT of time chasing stripers up and down the coast from Va. to Maine , but these are the first from my home state and even home river, the Hudson. Thanks to my fishing buddy HT. We had a great day jigging up some herring on sabiki rigs and getting these puppies to eat them out on HT's turf. Lots of boats out, but very few fish caught and activity in general.Somehow, our side of the river fared better.  That absolute  Hog HT got Friday wasn't a fluke. He knows exactly what to do. I want to figure out how to get them on the fly, but I'll absorb more info and time on the water, first.  I haven't posted here lately, but that doesn't mean I've quit fishing. I've had a phenomenal trip to the Pacific and have been hammering smallmouth and got a few big largemouth, too. Just no steel. If this off-topic post offends you, don't read it.  I put it here for the good people I've met and fished with on the SR from this forum.  I hope to maybe try to get out again. I've enjoyed the reports I've read. Hope they keep coming.

Jack, I had a fellow I met on the Hudson, yesterday  that recognized me from the beard! If the dam hat wasn't so warm , I'd chuck it. I've had the beard for so long, I 'd wouldn't recognize myself without it.  I hope you're still considering getting in the striper game, you'll enjoy it. They're a good warm-up for steelies. Any fish caught  with your son is a trophy of huge proportion, Dime.

Charlie, I know what you're saying about the beard/mustache thing. I have trouble looking at myself when ever I've shaved it off. The best part of the largemouth outting yesterday was the little guy casting a regular spin reel all by himself. Been doing the push button since he was 2 but he's come a long way now.

There are Stripers in the Delaware and they do get up to the area that I live, but it's hit and miss from what I hear and the river is not the best from shore and I don't have a boat. Then there are the Shad,I hear rumors that there is a good run this year but nothing concrete.Used to fish for the "poor mans salmon" years ago but then the run died out,but now they say they might be back.
Just to satisfy the urge to fish I might try a feshly stocked catch & release fly fish area tomorrow morning. Can't wait to fight those 10" pelletheads! LOL If it was n't C&R maybe I could run down to the big D and use them for bait for the Stripers,if I had any idea where they were:)

Good fish Charlie, nice to see your smiling face again. I got a few more steel since I saw you last and some small trout. I may try 1 more time this weekend.
