Clarion River Questions

I have never fished the clarion river, but plan on doing so this summer. What do you guys suggest? Should you fish with waders, from the shoreline, or from a small boat? I am not sure how deep or wide the river is. Is there an area along the river that anybody would suggest going to first? Is it a good river for walleye and bass?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I've fished there a decent ammount. There is good perch fishing along the shorelines, and you can catch cats just about anywhere. Unfortunately though, if you are interested in smallmouth or walleye, the only real place to go is down by the piney dam. Don't get me wrong, you can catch them anywhere in that river, but the dam is where the good fishing for those species is. The rest is hit or miss. Good luck!

what part of the clarion river you plan on fishing? upsteam from cooksburg or downstream? big difference in depth, conditions and fish.

you could wade a lot of the creek upstream from cooksburg. a canoe will get you to areas not so close to the road. lots of smallies, catfish, some trout in areas. there are places walleye hang out and suckers.

around portland mills and upcreek Dr. Trout knows that area better.
