Pymatuning Crappie

Hi guys any reports on the crappie up there. I wanted to take my daughter up for some fishing when they move out of the deep water into the bays. I know I may be a little early but wanted to get a handle on the bit now so I can plan accordingly.

Thanks in advance

I'm assuming for the most part the bite is still in the deeper water. Are there any fish being caught in the bays yet consistently.

Fished the south end two weeks ago and caught them in a bay...full of eggs.  The warm weather had them in early, they may have already moved out.

The last couple of weeks I have had luck up near Linesville in the stumps. Heading up tomorrow. Crappie Slayer did it slow down that much? I got 17 last weekend and probably 15 or 16 the weekend before. Also got a few perch. I don't keep them anyway just like to fish for them. If they are slow now I may just troll for some eyes or cats.

Got there late in the afternoon and there wasn't a sigle boat fishing the stumps. We fished where we hit them last weekend and nothing. Moved to a little deeper spot and found some fish, but wouldn't bite. Few guys I talked to said it was pretty slow for them too, only managed a few small perch. Gonna try in the morning and see if the fish are a little more active.

Crappie Slayer, Same here, shallows were quiet but marked fish in deeper water,no takers just the perch. I feel things are locked up for now, surface temps were 49% to 52% depending on what cove you hit. The drop in temps certainly slowed things down a little, need another warm up. But did find some eyes. Tightlines, Ron

Nasty Day today. Cold, Windy just plain nasty. Only got 6 crappie and 1 Perch in 5 hours of fishing. Water temp was down to 49. Picked up the few in the 10-12 depth range.

chauncy....What do you mean by the lake turning over?
Does it have to do with the water temp?
    Explain please!!

Yea pretty much the lakes lower temps will mix with surface temp.

Yes. The hot weather heated up the surface water very quickly but the deeper water didn't warm nearly as fast. The fish all came shallow to the warmer water a lot sooner than they normally would and were feeding like crazy. This recent cold front has lowered the lake temps by 10 to 12* with these near freezing nights. All this wind is mixing the top layer with the lower colder layer and making the temps universal thruout the water column. This stirs up the bottom and the fish seem to become disoriented somehow. The bite slows way down for a while. Some of us can even smell the water as well as see the coloration change. Happens on Shenango in the fall as the summer heat warms the water then the cold fronts start cooling it down. Seems it's happened this spring here too. Not sure about Pymatuning tho as i haven't spent time there this spring yet.

SmMouthSeeker, I want to beg your most humble pardon for overlooking your post. I deserve 40 lashes with a length of 4 pound test line. All joking aside, thanks, SmMouth.

Running just fine but trolling motor is in the shop. The bite is very slow on shenango right now but will pick up soon. I'll be up at linesville this weekend myself, trolling motor or not. Use your microspoons.

    Chauncy,

Any recommendation on where to buy microspoons other than the $70.00 factory minimum? My internet search came up empty. Any local retailers?

Also could you recommend some of your favorite colors?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

I've had great luck with green/yellow and green/glow microspoons.
