Big Tionesta Creek has lots of fishable water and is by far my favorite trout stream in that area. Salmon creek is a smaller stream outside Kelletville that gets lots of fishing pressure and fish, East Hickory is a little bigger and is nice also. Fished Big Coon years ago but never seemed to do exceptionally well there. You can head north into Warren County and that opens up alot of fishing options too.

Salmon Creek is popular and holds a lot of fish. The outlfow portion of Tionesta is a good one too. Don't forget Ross Run - usually the week after the opener - a local club stocks it for kids/handicapped individuals, but it is open to the public after the initial stocking. Lastly, Big Coon. It's not stocked for the opener (something about the pH being off) - but when they stock it the week after (and I think into May) - it can be a hot spot. It has been known to hold fish well into June/July (if you find the right pools and don't mind getting beat up by jagger bushes {yes, I'm from Pittsburgh}) Late June on Big Coon can produce nice fish if you're willing to "work" for them. The secret is out..........

Back MANY years ago, I fished Pithole creek the 1st weekend for years. Small stream, but seldom any pressure more than a few hundred yards up or down stream from the bridges.

Big Coon has those fightn brookies and the Little Coon use to have bunches of those tiny native elusive brookies but you must like to walk a bit. Have fun, JB

I would of shared that type of info through pm's, as streams like Tubbs and all the other tiny jump across native creeks can't take a bunch of pressure. Oh and if you're interested in the opening day stockie thing Tubbs isn't the place, as it is only stocked once for a kids derby in the lower stretch. But if you are looking to get away from the crowds then any of the MANY unstocked brookie streams in that area will do. If anyone needs suggestions on those I don't mind helping, just prefer to use pm's so the whole world doesn't see.

If you're looking to put 5 on a stringer early, holes along the Road on Salmon Ck would be my choice, w/ E. Hickory 2nd. I'm no longer in the area, but am told that most streams are low and clear, so Tionesta Ck. may be a good bet as well--have always liked the stretch between Mayburg Bridge and Kelletville when the Ck backs away from Rt 666. Requires some walking, but worth it. Even though it's going to warm up for the weekend, early season in the NW freestone streams means 'low n' slow' for success. Even if using spinners, low n' slow. Have a great opening day guys!
