Looking for Catfishing tips

A friend of mine moved up here from Florida. He likes to fish for cats and asked me to take him sometime. I usually fish the lake or bay for trout, perch, or walleye depending on the time of year. I don't know much about catching cats around here. Anybody here with some knowledge on when, where, and with what, that wouldn't mind helping?

Try Spam lunchmeat. Outfishes chicken livers all day............(channel cats, not flatheads)

I heard they like rotten shrimp. I don't fish them, but the guy who told me had a wheel barrel full of channel cats. He was walking off the one of the local marina rock walls as we were heading out on the boat at first light. They fished them all night with weighted bottom rigs.
