ORIGINAL: verbatim ORIGINAL: Shake n Bake The biggest bass in the state are in rivers, farm ponds and Erie. Are you talking about the same rivers that the Bassmaster Classic was held? You know the one where the winning weight was only 13 pounds? No. Contrary to popular belief in the south west corner of the state, Pennsylvania includes a lot more areas than what remains of the Pittsburgh Metro. The Susquehanna and Delaware are relatively good for smallmouth. There are others. None of them compare to the real producer rivers and reservoirs in some other states. Erie is one of the best places for smallmouth in the world though. Our largemouth fishery in PA isn't great at all. It's not even good by national standards. And the 3 rivers around the city certainly isn't one of the best places in the state to catch them. do you fish from a boat? just askin'

ORIGINAL: Porktown ORIGINAL: Shake n Bake The biggest bass in the state are in rivers, farm ponds and Erie. Are you talking about the same rivers that the Bassmaster Classic was held? You know the one where the winning weight was only 13 pounds? The Bassmasters Classic results were not a very good measuring stick for what the rivers hold. There is a reason, they held the event there in the first place. The surveys they take, were more than enough to get the Bass Masters and the FLW champanionship there. The timing was just bad for the Classic. Every 2-3 years, the rivers get a rediculous class of gizzard shad. The year of the Classic, was probably the largest amount that I have ever seen. The fish were too busy gourging themselves on schools of gizzard shad, to really pay attention to much else. When they are eating live gizzard shad, 24/7, even the best immitation gizzard shad and best anglers are going to have trouble fooling them. Even a live gizzard shad that wasn't swimming right was getting passed on. I personally, had one of my worst few months on the rivers then, and when I was putting in a good bit of time on them too. That said, Erie is by far, a better option. Same with the Yough, Lake Arthur, Susquehanna, and many others. Although, none of these would be able to hold the amount of pros, or their bass boats, or unrestricted motors. I'm sure Erie could hold them, if they hit the right conditions, or stayed in the bay, but be really crowded. Not sure how those boats would handle 4'+ waves? true all dat. imo the tourneys were great. they had to work for the fish and it was extremely tight as far as weights go. im also glad it was an off year because of that and if people realized how good 3 rivers fishing is, there would be way more pressure than there is now. just sayin'

I personally don't fish from a boat unless I'm with a friend on his boat.

There are a lot of things to take into consideration at Twin Lakes... #1 being the time of year you are fishing for bass... #2 what bait you are using (As said above a 17"+ bass is going to have no issue eating the large bluegills or the small bullheads or even dink trout that are in the lake... Also, no one on this board I believe could reach every inch of water in the upper lake hence the reason you rarely see the big bass that are in that lake pulled out... Would I say a state record is in there na... I'd leave that for a lake like Cranberry Glade or even Yough Lake... As for best waters for bass, I was speaking with a gentleman while fishing on the Allegheny River on Sunday saying he was out with a friend catching 4lb+ Smallies at the Kiski River... And for Largemouth I think as much as people oogle over Pymatuning for Walleye and Crappie, I've seen some very nice Largemouths pulled out of there... As well as Lake Wilhelm...

Sadly it broke off right at the boat so I never got to hold the thing but it was a pleasant surprise.

I've caught more big bass in Arthur and Pymatuning over the last 3 years while trolling for Musky than I have all the years I've been fishing. There are some monsters in those lakes. I've never fished Twin but if there are scads of 12 - 13 inch bass in there, maybe more little kids pulling fish out wouldn't be such a bad thing...

Couldn't have picked a worse time to hold a bass turny on the 3 rivers than July, August gizzard bloom kills the fishing. Been beat up on Erie in my 18.5 ft bass boat but those things are **** near indestructible I'll give up before my boat does.
