For months, Ohio's fisheries experts have warned of possible cuts to Ohio's Lake Erie sport fishing bag limits for walleye and yellow perch in 2012.

At Friday's meeting of the Lake Erie Committee of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission in Windsor, Ontario, the population numbers were crunched and no changes were made.

Ohio's daily walleye bag limit will continue to be four per day during the spring season that ends April 30, and six walleye the rest of the year.

The yellow perch daily limit will remain at 30 fish per day all year, although the perch population is down.

Lake Erie supervisor Roger Knight said the lakewide walleye population increased to about 25 million fish, up from last year's 21.2 million. Knight said extremely bad weather hampered the 2011 spawning season, but also triggered a low sport harvest. The walleye catch last year was about 28 percent of the allocated 1.5 million.

Why do people scream dont keep the steel but honor those keeping walleye.  I keep both so I am not against either but what is the difference.

because there are way less than 25 million steelhead in the lake? or most of the "fishermen" that fish for pelletheads probably don't fish the lake for walleye
