Conemaugh River - near the dam

What is considered the backwaters of the Conemaugh dam? Is there access places to get to it? Thank you,

The backwaters are the water behind the dam, or above the outflow whatever way you look at it. You can access it to fish at the West Penn Walking Trail in Livermore, or there is a public launch that should be operable when the water goes down. It is located off of 286 in Clarksburg, PA. Someone may know more, but the times I have been there that is where I have went.

By no means an expert there, but one of my best friends fishes it religiously. I've only been fishing it for 5 years or so, but I do okay when I go. PM me if you've got any specific questions, and I'll help if I can.

They just built and opened a new boat launch. I stopped in to check it out. If your boat is on a trailer your outta luck, it's more for canoes meaning you have to carry it a short distance.

A buddy of mine has a permit for the bow ridge area. This may be closest to the dam, but with limited access. Roughly last week when we were out the water was too high to get under the first bridge of the bike trail.

Thank you for the responses. A friend took us to the back waters. It was nice. My son and I were about 10 yards apart when we both slipped in the mud and into the water at the same time. It was slippery.

No fish....but I got to spend time with my son and my daughter!

This "boat launch" you refer to, is it down a small slope, directly upstream from the dam?

Typical smartass response from a dickhead. Thanks for letting me know the ramp is next to the water. That will be useful information the next time I take my boat out

Smartass response to a dumbass question. If you're too lazy to do a google search or even read the rest of this thread, then you dont deserve an answer.

just got done with one of these name calling fiascoes on cannonsburg lake forum. no question is a dumb question. if you feel that it is a dumb question, don't make yourself appear to be a smart (you know the rest); just do not answear. much easier. if you consider yourself a "PRO" angler, then why not act as such rather than appearing to be a fool. forums are meant to be a friendly exchange of ideas, suggestions, assistance and tips. please treat them as such or do not participate.

This isn't the 1st useless remark I've received from him, but maybe I didn't explain my question with as much detail as I should have. The only time I was at conemaugh I hiked down this "path" which resembled what could have been a boat launch at one time. If memory serves me correctly it was only a short distance upstream of the dam. I'm sorry cold, to have sunk to your level of immaturity. I wasn't aware that asking a question made me lazy and stupid. I was only there once about 2 years ago. Again, everyone, I apologize

There was supposed to be boat launch built in the backwaters near Virginnia farms last year. But I would think that the water would either be too low or too high to use it most of the year. sam

I usually get smallmouth, catfish, and panfish. Every once in a while a walleye. Seen a few pike get hauled up the wall. Only ever saw 1 gar. Got lots of crappies today
