mill run reservoir

has anyone fished out there lately? i was thinking of trying for some of the nice crappie that were in there. i was kinda wondering if the beaver dam was still intact or if that's long gone. it's been awhile since i fished it.

Always wondered myself about fishing there everytime I go by. I just see the area around the bridge.

The fish commission did a biologist report on it recently and said there weren't many panfish in there at all. Seems to be dominated by suckers of all things.

it's a shame how that place has changed. i grow up fishing there all of the time. then i moved away for 10 years. when i came back, half the reservoir is now dry land. the sucker population seems to be the only thing that hasn't changed. i'll definitely be heading back there for suckers and carp as those are two of my top 4 fish to chase. if the suckers are like they used to be, there should be some ridiculously large ones in there. i know the carp are friggin huge. i was watching them move around yesterday.

Yeah, the biologist report said that it was originally 14 feet deep but that there probably isn't a single place in the whole reservoir that deep now. Silt has that effect. They did find a fat tiger trout in there though!

i know the last time it was dredged out was 1962. my grandfather worked on it then. the deepest place i found was by the dam. i had about 8 feet of leader below my bobber before i started picking up leaves.

Do they open the gate so you can drive all the way down to the dam? I'd hate to lug all of my gear that far by foot.

Is the Mill Run Reservoir part of the PFBC Big Bass Program? My brother and I drive over it on the way to Ohiopyle, but never bothered to stop and look it over.

    KingKool,
I think the gate is normally closed. I usually go back that way once or twice a year and it is always locked.

Bummer..........I wonder if I could bribe the caretaker that seems to live on the property.

    Thanks.

Here's the biologist report they did on it in 2010: http://fishandboat.com/images/reports/2010bio/8x06_04indian.htm

They're conclusion was: "Despite limited panfish and gamefish populations, Indian Creek Reservoir sustains good fishing opportunities for adults and children seeking large fish like carp and suckers."

Is it worth the time to fish around the bridge area? Seems like when it gets warm someones always there. Thinking that area may be over fished before I give it a shot. It's only 15 minutes away.

the bridge area is totally slammed with people. in the off season, you can catch fish there. from the first day of trout, through the summers end. it's not worth the time and mud.

Anyone fish the creek below?  It looks a lot like the big sandy here in WV from the google map perspective.  Is there a trail that runs down parallel with it all the way to the river?  Camping?

the perch was unbelievable enough. But a 25lb bullhead? I'm calling bull something else on that one! Pretty sure you mean flathead, if your catching 15lb catfish (were all guessing your scale's a bit off).
