10 muskies, handful of walleyes this year. Gotta ask- Who has actually stopped fishing?

That's a pretty sweet start. It's not that people have stopped, just that nobody talks about it like it used to be. I was looking on the old forums and that is what made me make this thread.

Loomis, I fished a long day Sunday in Somerset Co. Also skunked, though I was up top the whole time, and missed two (on consecutive casts, no less ).

I'll be out probably every evening through Friday now, then Saturday, the closest I'll come to fishing will be crossing the Mon between Market Square and the Southide.

Yeah I need to hit up a few spots in the woods myself. It won't be long meow, maybe even this weekend. Make sure you don't find any dead fish down in Pittsburgh, keep in the livewell till at least 3:00 or the game wordens arrest you. u knoo?

was going to head out to arthur this weekend but bolting my kicker onto my new boat i just bought a month ago helped me find out the transom was completely rotted out...talk about ruining the weekend...building new transom instead of trying out the new boat

Junk dude.

I don't put it down, I just don't use it because I figure a lot of others are, thus the fish are seeing it quite often.

I wasn't saying just you, I meant the general population of fisherman. It definitely has a stigma. However, if fished correctly it can work and work well.

Looks like were going to have a nice weekend, I think I'm going to try to make one last hurrah in Erie Sunday. I'm glad to see people getting out, keep this thread going.

Those eggs do work well, I like the gulp ones better though. Try one or two w a half a crawler, works real good.

They've never worked anywhere else for me other than Twin Lakes.

well, I think the logic behind a floating bait is it is meant to be stationary. Fishing it in a stream with moving water probably is not the best way to present it as it cannot get to the depth the trout are holding at. Fishing a floating bait in a cold lake, or in front of the lake shore (like trout run) has been really good to me, anyways.

Or just put it on a tiny jighead, or put you lowest shot under your float 2-4" from the hook. They work in moving water under a float. Trust me.

I fish "floating baits" like power bait in streams and lakes pretty effectively.

In a stream, I'll set it up like I'm drifting for steel head or drifting nymphs, buggers or egg patterns for pelletheads with a fly rod - small styrofoam float at a depth that will get my bait near the bottom. The key is the right amount of small split shot close enough to the hook to keep it down. Usually a couple of really small blackbird shot about 8" above the hook does the trick.

In a lake, I'll set my bobber at anywhere from 4-6' above my hook. Same deal with stream fishing with the split shot. Works really well on those warmer days in late April and May when trout are more oriented towards bugs on the surface.

Both set ups work very, very well for me. I guess the key is to not use a huge glob of power bait. I'll put on an amount that's about 2 to 3 times bigger than a single egg on a size 16 or 18 hook that I use for steelhead. And chartreuse is always tops. Can't remember the last time I used another color.

This is just my personal opinion, that's all. I have a much better time fishing a single egg or sac in moving water.

Speaking of which, has anybody been down the Yough at Smithton?

Like you said, not always the best bait in a stream, but I've found it to work consistently.

Where do you get eggs and sacs for fishing around here that are certified VHS free? I'd prefer that too, but I always dispose of singles and sacs from Erie.

I've used them as single eggs with success but never thought about tying them up. Any suggestions as to what to use to tie them?

Sac tyer. I bought one at gander mtn. I use the white mesh, but you can use watever. I also like Atlas mikes chinook eggs in the natural color. You can pound the pellet heads with them. +1 to fishusa for actually selling them. (hard to find)

If I agreed with you we’d both be wrong.

Ahhh, good old Pautzke's Balls O Fire. Been quite a few years since I've used those.

Anybody know for sure if PR's single eggs are certified VHS free? The cured ones, not the juicy ones. I just assumed that they weren't.

It's hard to believe that the cure of muratic acid and whatever other secret stuff they use would have VHS in them, but they are not allowed to be used on inland waters.

Sac Tyer without a doubt. If you are fishing lakes you can make floating egg sacks, too, and fish them much the same as paste baits. Just cut a small piece of styrofoam or ear plug or get the small styro beads they sell for floaters. Works good.

The most success I've ever had at Twin Lakes was at the lower lake on Powerbait. It was on these stupid things that I had in my box.

We used to CRUSH the trout at Twin in the early '90s on those Magnum floating eggs. Size 8 hook with one pink and one orange egg on a slip sinker rig.

Your ripping on a teenager that is fishing and having a good time. That is so awesome! Tune your Joe Flies with these....they do great on the White River.

Seems like he was. I sometimes laugh at the adults on this board that show less class than a youngster who's having a blast and being respectful.

Going to twin lakes tonight to try my luck before the weekend. If you're there look for a pretty big guy wearing a camo hat with a basset hound.

Snag - Best advice I can give you is don't keep em if you catch em or your trip will turn into an expensive one.

Seriously though, I'd be fishing the usual jigs and minnows/chubs slowly on the bottom.

Don't leave before it is dark! Many times a switch is turned on between sundown and dark.

Good luck, I'm pretty sure you won't need luck though. They're usually pretty willing right now. Although this warm weather might have them preoccupied...

btw - I fixed your quote....
