yamaha steering

How do i adjust my steering on my yamaha outboard?
It will turn more to one side than the other.

    Is the binding happening at the motor or is it your cable that's not allowing it to turn? Going from memory, I think the late model Yamis have adjustments at the mount. I have a 90 hp two stroke I can look at tonight, and a 50 horse 4 stroke I can look at later, and see. What size and year is your motor?

    2006 25hp, I just put the motor on and im thinking the steering rod needs to be adjusted somehow.

    If you disconnect the bolt holding the steering rod, that will tell you if it is the steering cable that's stopping it or if there's an adjustment on the motor. I'll look at our set up tonight and see if I can offer a suggestion...

    Provided that the motor is not binding, you should be able to get some adjustment by loosening the lock bolts on either side of the steering shaft where it runs through the front of the motor and adjusting it side to side. Its basically a piece of pipe threaded on both ends to allow some adjustment. Once you have it loose, turn your motor to the side that's not turning as far and see if you have enough adjustment to get to full lock. You'll need to be sure it still turns fully the other direction when you're finished. If that doesnt fix it, there is one other thing I can think of.
