FISHING KINZUA

Hi everybody. I'm new to the board and have a few questions. Anybody have any info on fishing below Kinzua dam? What's the best times, baits/lures to use etc. Also looking for similar info on the Clarion river. Thanks for any help, Jeff

Just don't put up any pics of a Flyrod with your fish over there.

The "RIVER GOD" despises Fly Fisherman and will let you know it.

Do not ask for info over there you will get a rash oh sh1t for not finding them on your own and trying to crowd out the "River God"

Slacker you need to turn on your PM's.

The river fishing is all about the flow.

Beloww Kinzua any flow below 2500 should be wadeable, above that it gets a little pushy. When it is higher you can stick to the rt 59 side and have good fishing from shore.

Trout are available the length of the river. The Eyes should be targeted at dusk and after dark.

There are Smallmouth, Musky, Pike and suckers also available.

Rapalas and like swimbaits will catch just about any of these.
Live bait is also good if you like a slower approach, crawlers or minnows...

I grew up fishing Kinzua. There are a lot of skunks that inhabit the area and like to torment out of towners who fish there.

Its NOT that there are lots of "secrets", its just that there are more people asking for secrets these days that secrets have more of a tendancy to arise.

Don't know why all of you on here think we are tight lipped about river. Any place you see a pull off along rt 59 or Hemlock is good place. Crawlers, salted minnows, crayfish. Use a noodle rod cast the bait as far as you can and let it bounce along the bottom, you'll catch fish. I use six lb flourocarbon line.

I thought about it and I'll tell you about some secrets that I know. First your bait would be maggots. What you do is find the smallest hook possible (14 or 16) with a 6 foot piece of a 2 lb test tied to a very ultra light rod and fish the edges of the river for bait. You will catch all kinds of small minnows and unknown small fish. Do this for hours. Take the bait you got and fish it as normal bait with weight and hook or jigs. There are a lot of ways to catch fish in the river.
My favorite way is in a boat with the boat pointed upstream with trolling motor running on low to slow drift rate. Using a 6 inch rapala gold or copper lure casting into shore and ripping it towards the boat. The trick is you have to bend the eye of the lure slightly and/or some of the trouble hooks. What you want it to do is a big wheel or a big circle so from the surface of the water to the bottom. Hold on to your rod when they hit it and they will. It will almost be riped out of your hands.

    Good luck
