why would you want to know that. i would hope that you are not going to try to target them while they are spawning. if you want to target muskies, suggest that you hire a guide to assist you in your learning curve.

Musky do not make nests for spawning. They do it on the "fly". The female swims along and the male/males (sometimes multiple males follow her) releases sperm as she releases eggs. They do tend to be near shore when mating though because of water temperature. Ever see the lunge nets in Chautauqua? Amazing amount of huge females some years are caught in the nets.

I will post a picture of one female as soon as I upload it.

This polaroid pic was taken many years ago but notice the amount of calico that were in the net also.

They use a very large suspended square net on poles with high sides and a bottom near shore with an extended net reaching out into the lake for about maybe 50-100 feet that the fish follow until they enter the net.

*If I remember correctly they spawn when the temperature is around 50-52 degrees. I will check on that information though.

I found articles that indicated that the temperature may be as low as 48 degrees and as high as 58 degrees so 50-52 falls in the lower end of that range.
