Well, Its Official!

No lead split shot ONLY to be used on the Indian Reservation on the Catt. However, bottom bouncers, leadhead jigs, lures containing lead, lead lines and anything else containing lead is allowed. This all presented as a measure to protect wildlife...yeah right. Talk about double standard!

And I know there are other alternatives to lead shot, but this blatant targeting is total BS obviously provoked by outside influences.

Seems like an obvious attempt to target one group of anglers if you ask me...the drift fishermen/women. They won't see anymore of my money and many others' I'm sure.

According to the head Marshall, the council members are banning lead to protect the wildlife, mainly the eagles. They also wanted to close the fishing from Nov. 1- March 1, but compromised to only close during Jan. & Feb. So here are some new rules: No lead
    No fishing Jan. & Feb
Guides are allowed back on the Res
When asked about the possible loss of revenue from liscence sales, they said they didn't care about money.
With all the money from gambling, gas, cigarettes, the Res looks like a car show. Mercedes, Hummers, BMWs, Audi's, Escalades.....

Eagles seem to be doing just fine, just sayin'.

PS - last time I checked, eagles didn't eat gravel, where the lead would be.

Would have been a little more believable if he/they would have stated they are doing it to protect the ducks/geese.

This is a great idea. If all those pinners weren't tossing lead ropes, with 35 split shots, there would never have been a problem. They recognized the obvious health hazards to the wildlife and acted upon it. Good job!

Eyes, The eagles don't eat the gravel, but the ducks do and eagles are notorious for picking them. The lead that is dissolved into the waterfowl meat is then ingested.

Everyone better get used to this, it is statewide in some states and the trend will likely spread.

This is the letter I got from their main guy Glen:

No lead split shot at any weight. Everything else lures, line, bottom bouncers, etc... Are ok to use. The officers found it impossible to define "sinker" cause so many things could fall under the definition of sinker. So after discussion with Nation lawyers for language, it was best understood and to be enforced as the statement reads. No lead split shot. Check website and we will be on grizzly gary sunday to read statement and explain the enforcement.

Hopefully this makes law #6 easier to understand after person reads statement. Trust me my officers have been working hard to clear this question up for the anglers.

    Thank you,

    Will Miller

D-Nymph, In all of my years of drift fishing, I have yet to lose a string of split shot in any body of water. And I'm sure many more can say the same, so think before you type buddy...like someone said above, more shot is dispersed in the system by the indians shooting shotguns around the river. So if their sincere concern is for the wildlife, why not ban the lead from guns and any other source of lead sportsmen may use around the system? Please don't patronise me sir...

Oh, I thought about it and it's really simple. I don't like fishing around pinners. I have had plenty of experience with rude ones, that nobody will change my opinion of them as a group. I'm glad there will be fewer of them on the Res now. Sorry if that offends you.

Its a sad state of affairs when fishing becomes discriminatory.

Croatian, you are 100% right regarding a total lead ban. If it is for the wildlife/environment,then it ALL should be banned.

Well, thanks for summing up in just a few paragraphs what kind of character you have....you didn't even need to be generalized in whatever group/label you fall under, you simply took care of that yourself...

Commander...I summed that up above. I can certainly use tin shot if I wanted to...Thats not the point. Besides, theres many other good fishing opportunities on the Catt besides the IR.

They've also gone into the finance business recently. Gambling, gas, cigarettes, etc. are now old school. Here's where the big bucks are brought in (without antlers).

Oldtimers will remember the TV commercial from years ago -- the teardrop in the eye, lamenting the loss of pristine land. If the old guy is still alive, he's probably crying a river, betrayed by the younger generation's embrace of usury.
