Crooked Creek

Fished Crooked Creek lake yesterday with one of the college kids from my church who is home for spring break. We got bait at Goodman's (he has small and medium minnies)and got the boat in the water by 8:30. We fished all day, started out at the boat launch end of the lake, and eventually ended up down near the dam.

Found fish in deep water (20+ feet) We caught 75-80 fish, brought home about 25. Jordan caught one of the biggest perch I've seen for a long time,(13-14in.?)and we both had something big on and lost it before getting a look at it. I took my Marcum ice fishing flasher out with us, and I think Jordan had more fun watching the fish take his jig on the flasher than anything else. Now he says he wants to go ice fishing with me next season.

From what I could tell yesterday, the Crappie are still holding in deep water and haven't started to come into the shallow areas to prepare to spawn yet. My guess is in 2-3 weeks they will move out of the deep water and shore/shallow water fishing will pick up. I'm really looking forward to taking my 4yr. old son who will turn 5 next Thursday out on the boat alone with me for the first time to get into some of those spring time Crappie! He is gonna have a blast!

Tight lines & God bless.

Thanks for the update, glad to hear the launch is open, level was way up this time last year if I remember correctly.

    No problem.

I actually went to the lake thinking the launch was still closed, I just have a little 12' aluminum boat that I haul in the back of my truck, and I have been told when the ramp is closed as long as I'm just carrying it to the water, I can just go the the beach area and put it in there.

But as of yesterday the ramp was open. not sure how the rain we're supposed to get will affact that. they were letting ALOT of water out at the outflow & the water level on the lake dropped several feet throughout the day. Maybe they were getting ready for a bunch of rain?
