CSA Reservoirs (Cabria/Somerset)

Between the 3 main CSA regulated lakes (Quemahoning Reservoir, Hinckston Run Resevoir, Wilmore Dam), which would you say are best for bass (largemouth and smallmouth) and walleye?. I've fished them all with moderate success for bass, but it was just shoe. I want to get a boat out on them though. Where should I start?

From ice out to June, the Northwest few acres where the feeder stream enters under a small bridge is ideal. It warms up fairly quick and is close to the launch. Once the lake warms up, use your electronics to find the old buildings and creek channels. Since most everyone stopped by the lake during the draw-down, its not spot burning to say there is a silo and other farm structures under water about 600 yards ESE from the center of the green bridge. The panfish enhancement program has left us some great but infrequent slabs there.

They are all great. Most people get discouraged because they want fish after fish. It all comes down to learning each lake and spending some time on it. Where do you live? Its still a little early but I could show you a few spots if you would like. The key to most of them from my point of view is fishing soft plastics and not lures. The fish spook easy with the clear water and a very subtle slow approach works best in my opinion.

Cool stuff short guy, ill have to check that out.

Accordbw, I live in pittsburgh, but I went to school in Loretto, and lived in jtown for a while. I much prefer to fish soft plastics as apposed to lures anyways. The only places i've had success was by the boat launch on the Q and just upstream from the mouth of howell's run at wilmore. Those are the only places i've caught keepers. I would also consider myself a very experienced bass fisherman when it comes to soft plastics.

Hinkston is starting to turn around, but it's not great. Very seldom do you catch a decent bass. Most are on the small side. Certain days you can catch alot, though. Never targeted walleye there just because I never knew anyone that did any good.

They also stock trout. You have to realize though too that even though that is an impressive number the habitat was not there to sustain that population so a good majority may have been eaten. I know the one year I watched them dump the walley in and the bass and pike had a field day eating them. It was like a dinner bell. There are still walleye there but most people fish the "known"spots and avoid trying something new that works well. A nice brown was caught and released at the green bridge the other day and some large pike. the one was over 40"
