Could you put up numbers like that on occasion, Sure. I've seen it done and done it myself. Could you put up numbers like that over a long period of time, perhaps, if that was your only goal and everything you did was dedicated to only putting up numbers. The question has to be, Why? It sounds like as much fun as doing piecework on an assembly line. The few times I've done it the stars aligned and I did it just to see how many I could catch. It became a job rather than enjoyment. Different strokes I guess.

What if I told you I saw a unicorn on the side of I-79 last night?

Depends..I've seen 1 unicorn alone by itself before. I'm searching for the ever so rare herd of Unicorn. You know, larger numbers of them than one would believe.....

It's just funny to me how he compares his fishing method to "electro-shocking" the fish, when advertising his slide show. I mean no one who would make that statement would embellish the facts right?

Ya Cold I understand but if there was just one of us, it would be close to his catch rate.

No one is doubting it's attainable when all the stars align. Now try doing that every time out always, never missing a beat and averaging 100+ trout per fishing trip with 92 trips in 2011.

"One statistic that I think supports this statement is that I have now averaged 100 trout per day for more than 18 years. My records show that since August 8, 1993, I have gone fishing on 1,775 days and have caught 177,534 trout"

"The highlight of the month was having four consecutive outings where I caught over 200 trout, all wild browns except for a lone stocked rainbow. I caught 246, 241, 216, and 219 on June 16th, 18th, 19th, and 20th, respectively."

Funny how these numbers are not published in any magazines or notable literature, except internet forum message boards by the guy making the claim. No proof of anything, and he is also financially linked to being a successful trout fisherman. hmmmmm Just Sayin!

If this guy has the time to sit there and write down how many fish he catches, I don't think he can fully enjoy his surroundings enough while doing it.

The moral of the story is...who cares. I sure don't.

You get all kinds of personalities in fishing....this guy just happens to write down everything. Awesome for him, waste of time to me. Being a good fisherman makes you popular to about .000000000000000000000 (repeating x1000 times) 1 % of the population that actually cares enough to read about fishing though, I am sure this guy is enjoying his fame, and rightfully so.

He doesn't "write down everything". He wears a wrist band with a pen clipped to it, literally just like an NFL QB wears. he pulls out the pen and makes a slash mark each fish, takes about 2 seconds.

Where did you come up with that from?

It's not what he says he does in the disclaimer of his 2011 fishing summary. He said he gets out a tablet and writes down like 3 or 4 things about each catch.

Perhaps he has changed his record keeping style. But back when I used to post on some other boards, Frank Nale did also. That is how he described it then.

and measures them to the nearest 1/4 inch while they stay perfectly still. i'm sure he doesn't have time to net them. could you imagine how much time is wasted getting them treble hooks caught up in a net?
oh, he's an accountant, he works with numbers for a living. this should be enough to answer any 'number' questions.

You mean a guy that claims to catch that many fish has no changed his story??? Oh boy. I'm waiting for someone to calculate the length of time it takes to write things down and give us his new catch rate....

One thing that has to be remembered here, the streams he is fishing are high quality and some "holes" probably have 20-30 wild browns in them. The waters in this part of the state are unreal. I dont care how many he does or doesnt catch, but like some others have said, you can catch some crazy numbers at times.

How do you even know what part of the state he was fishing in when it doesn't say in his post?

If it's the same area as Frank Nale is fishing; I grew up fishing northeastern / central pa before moving to western pa for my job several years ago, and am very familiar with wild trout and special regulation streams in center, clinton, lycoming, and sullivan counties. I definitely agree the trout streams are a lot better than western pa, not even on the same level. However I still have a hard time believing 280 trout in 8.5 hours for a catch rate of 1 trout every 1.8 minutes!

Do you use a little pocket clicker to track numbers like that? I could never keep up, once I ran out of fingers and toes to count on!

Yep, one of those little pitch counter clickers.

Sounds like he's accidentally pocket clicking to me and believing the number on his clicker at the end of the day or something! lol

I heard he notches his rod every time he catches a fish. His rods are only good for two trips before he has to retire them to maintain his records.

That's why he buys or builds rods on the cheap.

Slayer, I agree those numbers per the time fished seem high, I am just making a point for those in other parts of the state that aren't familiar with waters in the central/southcentral part of the state. I know many a good fisherman from other parts of the state that are amazed when they fish these streams for the first time. The amount of wild browns in some of these waters is incredible, and often times it is the less known ones that have the most.

Being that you are familiar with streams of centre county for example i am sure you yourself have had some outrageous days, it just happens there sometimes.
