Picked up a bunch today at Kinzua on some trout magnets, than we hit up Marvin creek FFO, biggest one we got was a rainbow 17 and 1/2 inches, beautiful water today

Did you use the trout magnets on the FFO? I'm sure they would have killed there

But in all seriousness, you can use trout magnets and powerworms in DHALO right?

That's been a topic of much debate over the last couple years. From what I understand, trout magnets are ok but berkley power worms have scent on them which makes them iffy if not illegal. It all depends on the wco.

Well maybe I'll email the PFBC so I can get a response in time for the 2019 season opener.

Absolutely they are legal, I've used them down home on the DALO and never had a problem.

Power worms no, theyre considered power bait, and trout magnets as soft plastics

Yeah, TMs are good to go in an DHALO. I was actually stopped by a fish cop a few years back on a DHALO, and of course he made me empty my pockets and fishing creel and jacket (and checked out the inside of my car pretty good through the windows...while that's considered 'in plain view' I didn't appreciate being treated like a criminal during what should have been a simple license check), and when he got to the TMs I specifically asked him about them and he said they were okay. If a ****-nozzle like that, obviously eager to write a citation, couldn't find fault with them, I think they're okay.

that kind of action, by our finest, burns me up. I've experienced similar behavior and it's totally uncalled for.

Completely agreed. It's that experience with a few other, somewhat less off-putting incidents, which have soured my opinion of the PFBC fish cops. Not that they're all bad apples (that kind of thinking applied toward anglers is the whole problem), but I've run into a much high concentration of this type working for the PFBC than all of the state & local police and even the PGC guys combined. And they wonder why they develop a negative image among anglers.

Again, while it certainly doesn't apply to all of them, there may be a nugget of truth behind the comments I've heard from some anglers, that suggests that this type of fish cop is a guy who never made it through police academy, so now they'll take it out on anyone they can.

The one at Buffalo isnt too bad, seems like a nice dude. He was watching me and my buddy fish one day apparently through binoculars cause he said to him. Man they were killing that pink egg patern ahah kind of weird

Yeah, well you've got to be a bit weird or have some kind of complex to take that job to begin with in my opinion. Sort of like a mall cop. Or a real cop for that matter.

Watching people through binoculars for hours, having them empty their vests, hiding in brush and spying on people fishing, bothering guys showing their 3 year old kids how to fish and all the rest is indicative of the kind of people we're dealing with here.

Meanwhile, whole waterways are destroyed by corporations... But let's not worry about that when there may be a 64 year old guy out there somewhere who didn't pin his license on his hat!

The DHALO thing is interesting/annoying though. According to the old posted rules for DHALO I could see how power worms would be illegal, but then so would trout magnets. Under the new rules, the only way I can see the one being illegal instead of the other would be if power worms were considered "edible substances." But what makes them "edible"? Flavor? I don't think so. They're made from soft plastic just like trout magnets.

The definition of edible is "Something fit to be eaten; food." Plastic worms aren't food, right? Who knows.

I don't think the fish cops know either. They make it up as they go. I've absolutely fished with power worms in DHALOs in Fayette County and been checked by a fish cop who didn't have any problem with it. If they tried to get you on it and you fought it in court, they might lose. As popular as the things are, you think they'd post something on their website about it.
