water level spike at shenango

yesterday they had all 7 gates open in the am to 1 foot then later in the am the water level jumped significantly. i believe they opened all 7 to 1.5 feet each.

anyone know why? possibly in anticipation of the storm we had overnight into today?

    At 3' now.  They don't want the lake like it was last spring.

    now all open to 4 feet. with the exception of that big rain we got the last full week of feb, i don't feel like we've gotten that much rain?? WTH is the water level so high for?

    this cabin fever is driving me nuts!

    What was so terrible about last year? We were catching fish where we hunted pheasants? It was pretty bad. I launched my canoe in the first parking lot at Golden Run and caught crappies on the road before the T-intersection. That water is Corps controlled and the PAFB has no control over the water levels of the lake or the river.

    Lake level 3 1/4 feet below summer pool
    Gates 1-7 open to 4 feet each

    it's coming down a bit. 4.6 feet below normal summer pool. all 7 open to 3.5 feet.

    someone mentioned in another post to pull up the whole state and look for what color the majority of the dots were. the whole state is green except for the shenango... what gives?

    now almost 6 feet below summer pool but still all 7 open to 3 feet each.

    no recent precip to speak of. a bit forecaseted for tomorrow but then nothing more for a few days... why are they draining so much water?

    i'd think they want to keep the lake level as low as possible in case of mor rain. they couldn't put the docks in until after labor day...

    you mean last year? i completely get that... but i'd also say last year was a big anomaly. tons of snow, leading to a huge amount of melt off, plus a very wet spring, combined with the "downstream agenda" with all of the flooding in the ohio river region = last year was jacked up for spring fishing!

    THIS YEAR, we've had a relatively mild and dry winter, the current level is 6 feet below summer pool, and it's FRIGGIN BEAUTIFUL out there today. i guess i'm just letting cabin fever cloud my judgement. i was hoping to play hookie today and wet a line!

    i have no idea what the water levels are when you say gates open to a certain foot amount.... i have never been to the shenango tailwater...i am still going to tie a few bugs tonite and go give it a look thur..hopefully it will be fishable....i am having flyrod and tailwater trout withdrawl..... if its to blown out may have to head to oil creek
