Do suckers or other fish run here like in Erie ?

I was just curious if any runs occur from the river to any of our local streams. I know some fish from the river make their way up some of the creeks. Are they straggling up are they lost !! Just wondering.

Not really in the Southwest, but I've seen them (suckers) "run" in Tionesta Creek at Nebraska bridge. Won't bite a thing while they're doing it either.

Used to gig them. Dark of new moon in April is supposed to be best. They're good eating but boney! You can boil them, strip the meat and make good fish cakes!

Suckers and carp will both enter tributaries anywhere to spawn in the spring. Fish do migrate other places than Erie. Have seen un named woodland streams be loaded w suckers in the spring that are tributaries to beaver run.

I don't know if they still do or not,but back in the day, spring sucker runs in Beaver Run Tribs used to bring out quite a few fishermen.Prob. because that was about the first fishing around. This was when trout was closed during March.I do remember guys spearing them & that people claimed that the flesh on suckers was firm & made good tho bony eating.Unfortunatly most of the spots we went to are posted now. sam

Any trout stream or tributary that dumps into the allegheny river will see sucker runs for the spawn. A few trout streams i've fished will literally have more suckers in them then trout.

When I lived in Monongahela(about 30 years ago) I would fish for crappie from the aquatorium(stage) that was built onto the river right in town. A hour or two before dark into the night and would catch 12-14 inch crappie on minnows right along the edge of the stage. A lantern at night, was a must allowing the light to slightly shine in the water which would attract bugs, minnows and fish. Used a float slightly weighted about 18-22 inches deep. Crappie will seldom hit bait that is below them that is why you need to fish rather shallow for them to see the bait above them. With all the other types of fish in the river now you have a chance of hooking just about any PA. fresh water fish. Best time to fish is coming up right now as the weather warms and river conditions permit(March - May).

Pretty interesting I have seen several types of a fish up a local trib in the Summer but have never witnessed a run of fish. One Summer I caught a couple of Sauger by accident probably a couple of miles from the river. It would be pretty cool to see.

Wally cat, Pretty intresting fishing off of that Aquatorium after dark with all of them darn river rats(the 4 legged ones)staying just at the edge of the light.we would occasionaly put a piece of cheese on a hook & try to catch them. They would usualy nibble it off without getting hooked. I don't know what I would have done had I actualy caught one. lol sam

Sam, never saw too many rats there but would see a lot over at Pigeon Creek at night when I fished there for carp. They would come right over to us and steal our doughball right out of a container. I made short work of several with a sling shot.

Yes they still do, and if you want to go for them let me know. Most of that property that is posted is where we lease to hunt.

When the stream would get high that runs through the woods where I grew up at suckers would be in there by the hundreds, It was nothing more than a runoff ditch. I haven't been down there to check it in the past years so I don't know if they get up that far anymore, but I have seen them well past 22 into the other side of the farmland that runs by 819 when I was younger.

When the gas company field floods carp are out there like crazy, too.

I've stumbled onto dense sucker runs twice in the past couple years in western pa. Never really tried to catch them. One was a trib of the Mon river and the other was a trib of a small lake up on the mountain.
