Who's Ready For Trout Season?
Not too far away now. Anyone have anything special planned? A new spot, same spot you've been going for years, taking someone new along?

i cant fish for most of the opening of trout until mid may because of work but i rented out a camping cottage at poe valley state park in mid may, so i'll be fishing at the lake and maybe at poe creek. i'm bringing my dog with me though, so my main focus is going to be spending time with my dog.

Nice. Trying somewhere new myself this year. Well it's not a new place, but somewhere I've never been for opening day. It's close to home and I usually fish it weeks after the opener when the crowd dies down (only a little), but I figure why not get there early this year and get myself a good spot.

The pristine and pure waters of the Allegheny County DHALO areas never close, so trout season never ends. I'll be hitting them up a little bit in a few weeks when they dump some traht in there. As for opening day, I'm spoiled. Have a buddy that dumps a bunch of 14" + trout in a big farm pond every year and lets the kids go crazy. Take my kids there every year, and then after a week when everybody's done fishing, I have a trophy trout water pretty much all to myself for the rest of the year. I'll be catching some of the holdovers as soon as the skim ice is gone in a week or two. Big slab bluegills in there, and plenty of bass in the 16-20" range when I get tired of the pelletheads. Like I said, I'm spoiled. I love farm pond fishin'

Been fishing for trout 2 - 4 times a week with in Jan and Feb with the nice weather we've been having. Lots of fish to be had, lots of options to fish. I dont actually fish the first week anymore, but after that its usually doable.

Yeah, gotta agree with most. What season?...trout is all I have caught for the last 4 months and plenty of them. And I like catching and sometimes consuming them....Will certainly avoid the first week totally and go off to the east coast for a while....

No matter what kind of fishing I'm doing in the next few months, I'll be daydreaming about all the white and speckled trout I'll be catching in June on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. We go almost every year for vacation and stay with my wife's grandma, who lives 2 blocks from the beach. That's the trout season I REALLY look forward to every year, and those are some trout I REALLY love to eat.

ORIGINAL: Swans500 Yeah, gotta agree with most. What season?... haha...I say season because my trout fishing starts around the opener. During the winter months my weekends are spent hunting from October-Januray, then it's usually ice fishing for walleye (or whatever bites), spring walleye fishing, then Trout opener. You guys that fish year round for trout kind of have me jealous and wondering how I can fit more of it into my "outdoors schedule".

The best part of the first day is seeing all the kids eyes light up. Fish the same hole on Laurel Hill creek every year since I was old enough to ride on my dads back across the creek. Fish for the most part year round but the first day is about seeing old friends and having fun. Oh and maybe catch a few fish.

I am headed to camp with my best bud and fishing the DALO at Kinzua Creek. Never been there but well investigate and see what's happening. That will be March 4th through the 7th I'll be fishing Buffalo down home until the opener and I'll be headed back to camp to pull out some lunkers at Marvin Creek

my trout fishing spots are mainly on my property, so i'm just dimly aware of this, first day of trout season thing. though i do avoid certain bodies of water until the crowds stop.

laurel hill is a really nice creek to try. gets kinda crowded, but by 10:00 or 11:00 most of the drunk guys are on the bank eaten or passed out and then you can pick what spot you want. hey just wanna fish. i went to erie for the poener last year and wont do it again. it was worse than steelhead fishing and i dont think i saw a fish kot over 10". ill be at laurel this year. some where around the covered bridge outside of confluence.

I have noticed that there are a few less guys on the trout opener every year, thats good for us who still keep the tradition every year, so by all means everyone please continue defecting away from the opening day to catch all the walleyes, bass, panfish, and fish the delayed harvest areas for trout. One thing is please don't change your mind at the last minute and show up to a stream or lake at 5 till 8 and sqeeze in next to a group of guys who have been there all morning, thats annoying. Just for the record we are all aware fishing season runs year round, but thanks for the reminder.

How you like that Revo? I would reccomend putting on a tippet if you're using blue line for trout. Pali looks really unhealthy too, but believe me I'm still jealous, went out to Buffalo and landed 11. 7 browns on midge larvae flies and 4 bows, 2 of them on yellow sucker spawn with a blood line.

The Revo is just nasty. Line was 6# Clear florescent P-line cx premium. Pali was caught on a wax worm. Also caught a 19" bow. Its just the golden and a 19" rainbow living in the hole. I was there yesterday and the guy there had just caught him before i got there. He still fought like a champ tho and took about 5 nice runs and I was able to really use the awesome drag on the Revo. Snapped a pic and sent him on his way.
