Bamboo Fly Rod Question

Somebody gave me a 8 1/2 ft. 3 piece Montague-Flash Split-Bammbo Rod in its original tube. The string around the eyes is unraveling. One ferrule pulls away from the bamboo and stays connected to the other piece of the rod. I am not sure but I believe this rod is not worth that much. I was curious about opinions on if it would be worth getting it fixed and restored to fish it. Also, where would I go to get this restored and approximately how much it will cost? Thank you in advance for your help!!

Montague Flash with an extra tip, 3 sections has a value of $20, 60 and $115 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively. You can check ebay as you can frequently find Montague rods there.

Give indsguiz a PM . He could tell you exactly what you have and give you a relative idea if its worth fixing or selling and how much it may run you.

Ditto on deetz's advice. Jack is an expert on bamboo.

BTW - I landed 3 steelies several years ago on a bamboo rod Jack restored. I would have fished with it more but I broke it on the third fish.... Jack fixed it and I fished with it several times since but managed to break it a second time. Jack came to the rescue again, but this time told me to quit fishing for steelies with it... I only use it now for pan fish...

He used a 4 wt bamboo rod, to fish for steelies, in the chutes, above Manchester! And still landed 6 out of 8. Now if he had been on Elk with a very good reel and the fish had lots of room to run, , , , , They still would have broken. I have built two 7 wt bamboo rods for steel and 1- 8 wt and they really are trees. But they were the only thing back in the early 1900's.
