Bobcat tracks

Just opened a new job up down in the ANF near Pigeon.
With the new snow on the ground I was able to see where a nice sized Bobcat had walked down my skid road this morning.
Pretty cool being able to track him a 1/4 mile.
Might dig out the game cam and see if I can get some pics.


 
 I love the sweet smell of Victory and the Salty taste of Liberal Tears in my coffee. BB

    cool, never saw a bobcat in the wild.

    It is worth a try to get a picture but typically it takes a bobcat about a month to cycle back through the same area again. So, unless he is finding a frequent prey base there it might be a while before he/she is back in that area.
     
    Bobcats are net to have around, especially if you get to see them. They blend into their surroundings so well most people probably don’t see bobcats even when they are close to them. I have seen some, took my eyes off of them for a few seconds then had a hard time picking them out of their surroundings again even though they hadn’t moved.

    I called one in once in Washington County while coyote hunting.  Was using a bird in distress and the cat just appeared at 30 yards when it hopped up onto a log and sat to stare at me.  Never saw it coming.
     
    This was two years before bobcats became legal in 2A.

    I haven't seen one since about 1980 although I've seen a few tracks. I may have seen a track two weeks ago on one of my hikes but it was too washed out to be sure. The males should be seaching for mates about now. A local couple had a photo in the paper with a couple along with a trapping article. That sure generated a whole lot of back and forth in the newspaper reader speaks section.

    I only saw one in the mid 70's.It was the fisrt day of buck season in clearfield Co. I cut tracks in the fresh snow and followed it for 3 hour before getting a quick look at the cat walking a log crossing a stream.I also got sort of lost in the flat country and as a last resort back track myself out. I saw tracks while deer hunting in WV. but no cats.

    Cool pics...

    I have seen one numerous times on the same stretch of road a few miles from Punxsy. Unknown if the same cat or if it is just an area which a group frequents.
    Saw them much more when growing up in Northern Butler County, but spent a lot of time in the woods hiking or horseback riding also. Haven't spent much time in the woods there in a long time, so don't know if the population is still there.
