There was a bit more trash 50 feet away - the end of it, so I stomped da bag contents(no I'ze knotz a Mexican drug smuggler - Mr. RT retired LEO UC MAN!!! - I knowz what uze was thinkin ) to make room, picked up the rest, then KARMA struck a 2nd time::: Lo & Behold - a tight fitting bait bucket full of worm dirt - actually dry - no skanky dead worm smell - BINGO - GOODKARMA DOSE#2 !!! p.s. on 2nd thought, I really only received one dose of GoodKarma - the bait box, cause I'ze gotz to thinkinz boutz GoodKarma#1 - the lunchmeatz... Considering the fact that I found these: tracks of that big brute Alpha Male Pennsyltucky Coyote I've been playing cat&mouse wiff for the last week - a mere 60 yards away from the Oscar Meyer stash, and considering, that an RT-style drugdog can smell drugs inside a gas tank, and considering further, that a Pennsyltucky Coyote can smell drugs in a gas tank buried deep inside the arze of a drugdog, well, I guess the old saying "You are what you Eat" is Twue!!! Coyotes know better than to eat the store-bought scat, they'd rather have a wabbit.. Cause I can ****rantee you that ole Wiley smelled it and did not bother to fill up on Junk. ************* I'll feeze Oscar stuff and save for problem racoons a friend is having at his camp. At least I'll put it to use, so I guess it was GoodKarma after all. Later

I put one in the back of my jacket. Nancy usually has one in her backpack. I remembered, though. If I see someone throwing trash I'm going to give them a lecture. I hope they hear it as I hold their head underwater. I hate to repeat myself, but I will if I have to. Charlie

No, I'm a different kind of guide. And yes, I still actually go to the river and pick up trash. By the way, I'd actually say something to a moron. I've had a life of hard labor and I ain't dead yet...

Trev, we picked up a couple of bags. It wasn't totally out of hand, but still present. HT got a small patch of punctures in his near new waders from what looked like (I almost guarentee it was) sitting on a piece of broken glass. Why the @#$@#$$% do idiots have to carry in bottles? I couldn't pick up some broken ones, as they would have torn the bag open and prevented me from getting the rest of the crap out. The majority of the guys we saw looked like decent , respectful sportsmen. I can understand a coffee cup or a piece of plastic blowing away, but bottles? A-holes couldn't tell a good beer from skunk **** filtered through a rotten shark carcass....why bother. Charlie

Got up there Sat evening and on Sun AM took the wife and grandkids up to Oceola to ski- then went fishin-only bout 6 inches of snow up on Tug- res real low. Walked a feeder for a half mile or so- beautiful-no fish though - saw some idiot walking in a deep hole while his friend stood by with his heavy spinning outfit and a tackle box in the other hand. Darned herders- I left and went to the Kiddie for a bit and then picked up the trash in both parking lots. Bout a half inch of new snow around the Pulaski area on Sat AM and its mostly gone today- Tuesday- Weather is supposed to be cloudy and around the low 40s for the next few days. Sunday also sunny and in the low 30s like Sat was- Did a repeat of the day before without walking any feeders though- Bumped into Charlie when he parked up in Altmar- I stayed in the Kiddie a bit and he took a hike. Hope he did better than I did. There were fish but it was picky. Nice family trip- be back up alone Thursday through the weekend - c ya at da paty.

HEY-- oops didnt mean to yell-- If ya get up round the river pickup an edition of the Salmon River News. Says how much pressure the SR got this past year in an overall lake trib report by the state.. Threw mine out with the trash by mistook. Sr got more pressure than anyplace else by a wide margin and was bout half of all trib pressure on the US side of the Lake -as I recall. Get this - over 100.000 fish caught with a huge number released. Tremendous dollar infusion to State and Local economies too ( millions) so dont let anybody tell us they cant afford to put in and tend to porto potties and trash barrels and do serious LE too. This is all probably on a web page someplace as well - just didnt bother to look it up after reading the article. Would really be worth a peek.

Incur, meaning burden with a debt? A bunch of brain dead a-holes, that's who. If you meant who bears the cost, it's the taxpayers and those who buy fishing licenses. License money and budget money allocated to the DEC goes for maintenance of the fishing accesses and easements. This allocation and budgeting is based on fishing days arrived at by survey. Use goes up- more money is to be allocated for the resource. Very simple equation. I don't want to put words in Retired's mouth, but I think he meant those of us who give half a **** and may even lift a finger to help do something. Some progress may be made. I spent 3 days last week and will spend this weekend on the river, too. I guarentee that's about 6 bags of garbage that will be removed by Nancy, HT, and myself. I personally don't see the state living up to their full obligations, but it might be nice to find a way to hold their azz to the fire. As I said earlier in this thread, I've been through this in my area and progress was made through the efforts of many people. The "do not litter" signs are very small and in black and white. I'll personally make up larger far more visible signs with a little more wording if they let me. If it reminds a dozen people to bring it out it will be worth it. Or encourage others to say something or carry more out themselves. CO's went through the LFZ measuring tippets and checking out weight and "flies" this week, so they are recognizing the huge upswing in usage this winter. Charlie

I'm a F'in carpenter with a HS diploma, Metal. I don't mince , so much as smash. I suppose I could have used "absorb" instead of bear, but that sounds like a tampon and would end up in the river , too. You can find who has responsibility with some easy research. If the State owns it, the State takes care of it. As I said, the parking areas , at least in the Fly Zones and the bank easements are NYS. Side of the road areas are a different story and may be town or county depending on the road. Different agencies would have to be approached. I would think, Ellis, Trestle North, Pineville and all the other designated areas are State. The one on the corner for the wirehole, I have no idea. Does it suck to have to pay for lowlifes? Yeah, that's why I'd like to see some education and enforcement to cut it down. Also more private organized clean-ups. It'll never completely be gone (unless the fish disappear) and at that point it'll be too far gone to worry about. Charlie

Couldnt have said it better Charlie--- HEEY- there I go yellin again Think I mighta seen some barrels and toilets at Selkirk and boat launches ana bunch little beaches and parking areas in the Oswego area- who pays for that and who maintains THEM ?????? Betcha ( to use a Palin word) most dont get the use the $R does either. Actually according to that recent State report NOPLACE gets the use the $R does. Also take a look at the outa state plates up there and ya might see how much the $almon River brings into NY-not to mention sleepin and eatin and drinkin an tackle and gas in Pulaski too- most ONLY fish there a few days a year too. Thats all old ground though- any state that has that many folks comin to one State resource would seem somewhat OBLIGATED to make at least a small effort on trash and potty-. From what I'v noticed up at the $R its basically NO effort at all. OOPS- gotta stop yellin- I do seem to recall a few years ago when they had PRISONERS brought in by the busload and they cleaned up the parking lots. Hey --whatever it takes is OK here.

cans are still at selkirk when campgrounds are open and the state campground takes care of them.the new term for chain gangs is community service.that would be through the courts and probation dept.

Did it the first time at bout 16 years old. Feet still hurt from the rocks. Went swimming there back in 02 or sometime around then in july. The water was like low 50 something. It was pretty tough to tolerate.Late summer evenings are pretty nice there... as well assome late warm february days before ice out when the fog sets in mid day...or how about casting spoons or throwing some rope from the pier when the wind is howling in april(which was my first lake Ontario experience at age 10).over all a nice place. Was there 2 weeks ago but wasn't really paying attention to garbage cans or anything like that. Never really noticed any trash there though. I think pafishers idea of increased fines along with noticeable signage would definitely play a big roll. Charlie, your idea of getting permission to post bigger signs is awesome. I will admit that I don't have the time to seek and pursue the permission, but if you get it I will be first in line to help you... could make a nice day for some bank walking, sign posting, small mouth fishing...maybe even make a float trip out of the whole thing. Please post here if you have success and get the permission

Dime- That first time swimmin at Selkirk for me was in either 63 or 64--nooooo not 18 it was 1963 or 4. Gotta take exception to the Summer fun there- that freakin slime comes in and smells like donkey poop--heck even the green colored water smells without the slime on top at that time of year--swim away folks lol.

Around here - Community service hours is what guys do as an alternative to prison . You get a fine and so many hours to do within a time frame or its off to the hooscow for not meeting the details of 'the deal' that kept you out in the first place. When we see prison groups out cleaning up its generally a workforce of minimum security guys who are working towards good time and an early release- or simply what they get to do as a reward for the good behavior with' outside time'. Generally one guard takes a group out to predesignated places to do said cleanup or other services. My ex-brother in law drove a bus doing the work details for years- never had a problem with his guys. Like I implied before- would welcome them or anyone else assigned or voluntering to help on the SR. Sent a lot of guys to the prisons and got no issues with the vast majority of them (cept for the killers and molesters). Most were doin what they felt the needed to do- just hope they changed their minds on that stuff.

Are the NY State Agency employees unionized? If they are, and their union is as useless as Pa's AFSCME (American Fed of State County Muni Employees) they make a point of being inefficent... In the past year, I personally let a State Park Ranger know he is a lazy azz after he drove his new state issued truck over a pile of McDonalds trash in a parking lot streamside, then I picked it up, baggedit, and walked up and dropped in the box of his truck,,, and told him that he should have done the same thing. (he gave me the look that it's not My Job Man).. same with a lazy WCO - who could now lower himself to scatter 9 deer carcusses (laying right in front of a PFC sign on a SGL parking lot - in clear sight of the general public - which incluses many addle-minded anti's - (a week after I reported poacher activity - which he did NOTHING ABOUT).. Then he had the nerve to suggest that I may be illegal for "littering" by spreading rotting carcusses full of nutrients among the flora&fauna... ( I told him to call his co-horts at DEP and share a box of donuts with them) - true class A+ power-trippin Ahole. Lazy bureaucrats with excuses... RT - you will get enough BS responses/ no action from the various NY agencies, that you will be able to cram a landfill to the top.
