Years ago I tried to organize a toys for tots campaign in Pulaski and willing to do ALL the work.. Great Cause right ? Well I went to every biz and DSR just to ask permission to place boxes to collect the toys.. I asked DSR to reduce their daily fee by $10.00 if a toy of equal value was dropped off.. I could not believe how many doors were slammed in my face.. Now this was for Kids for petes sake... It has left a bad taste in my mouth for trying again for any type of organized event since... I will however prepare and send forth a letter of disapproval to the conditions so many of us encounter while in the area.. Be prepared though that sometimes we may get something more then what we simply desire.. Like closed access..

Tuna- that acess thing is one of my personal gripes. they have privatized so many old parking areas and posted so much around Pulaski so as to almost be a no fishing zone cept for the many who fish it anyhow- Try gettin to the North side of the downtown pool all the way to the tall bridge without violating a sign. Then try and park legally any place with more that a 2 hr zone to fish below the tall bridge. BTW its posted on both sides of the bidge too - just in cast ya thought of legally walking down that way from the road anyhow. BTW agree that handwritten ones will carry most weight-can only hope some pay attention to the e-mails. Nothin ventured-------

ORIGINAL: retired guy  Imagine if a reporter started callin LE askin what they are gonna do?? STORYLINE sometime 2012: ROUND & ROUND WE GO TRYING TO KEEP THE SALMON RIVER CLEAN Concerned, environmentally-minded fishermen that frequent the Salmon River fishery recently approached area Law Enforcement Agencies including the NYDEC asking for increased patrols to curb the out-of control littering on certain stretches of the waterway. Discussions are in the works and LEO manpower is being gauged to determine if available resources can be assigned during the very challenging budget times faced by both eth state and local governments. Other discussions involve the request of additional trash receptacles to be placed along the river - a simple tool that could curb littering if officials would commit to regular maintenance of said receptacles by depositing the contents in the nearby refuse transfer station located on Rte 2A, Pulaski. Officials responded by stating - in the past, dumpsters were filled with unapproved materials such as discarded fish carcusses and occaisional household trash - as a result such services were terminated. Concerned fishermen suggested that local LEO increase the frequency of routine patrols along the river in order to curb illegal dumping into the dumpsters. Discussions are in the works and LEO manpower is being gauged to determine if available resources can be assigned during the very challenging budget times faced by both eth state and local governments. da end ***************************** Sorry RT - couldn't resist.. (I'm not a big believer in govt efficiency - or intelligence (retired UC guys excluded)

ORIGINAL: waDerboy Rumor has it that salmon were at one time considered toxic waste at one time and could not legally be disposed of at the local transfer. That and vandalism were the reasons given for taking the cans out of the lots. Any of you "locals" know if that is true? Do the cleaning stations put the carcasses in with the regular trash? The area lodges toss it in dumpsters which is picked up and taken to landfill. See round and round post boutz dumpster vandalism....

ORIGINAL: retired guy Dont see this as some kinda club effort with lotsa organization and all- Just think if we each do something the cumulative effect cant hurt. The few places I contacted I asked THEM to do the paperwork. If the do -good - if they dont well we might just notice and do business elsewhere. RT - here's another contact - Pulaski Chamber of Commerce - go git em...

RT - have a drink and chill out. Here's a litle tangent from the trash-talk: Like you, I had a rough day: I've been bean-countin 11hrs stright today in front of puter,(except for my very early walk in da woods for exercise and Wylie E Coyote Seek & Detroy Mission, discussin SR trash, and utter stuff 2!! My eyes are tired, I gotz another hr of work to meet a deadline, but I can't complain because a strange thing happened earlier this afternoon. A client (rich d00d) owns several companies and is in the process of acquiring another business located in Backwater, South Carolina. He calls me asking if I can do him a big favor. His present Controller, a very competent accountant, yet reserved quiet woman informed him at the last moment that she can not travel to SC to audit the targeted company's assets included in pending sale due to the fact that the current owners are "country boys - possible rednecks) who drink too much, are too loud, and can be vulgar, un-PC, and just plain offensive at times. He is in quite a pickle because he has other committments and cannot make the trip himself. He asks what I am up to... I sayz I'm slammed and my calendar is pretty locked up. He sayz he will double my normal rate, pay all expenses, upgrade plane ticket to business class, yada yada. I tell him to call the guy in SC, tell him whats up, and have him call me, then I will call him back. I talk to Herb (luv dat name ), and do a bit of exploratory questioning bout his biz to determine scope of work, and b4 you know it we are talkin huntin. I tell Herb I will see him soon. I call back my client and tell him that his terms are acceptable but travel time is at double rate too, he must upgrade the rental to luxury car, and also ante up for non-resident SC hunting license - seems ole Herb is very organized, I can blow through audit no prob, and he wants me to stay an extra day to hunt critters on his plantation. Client laughs and says - Whaddever it takes to keep Herb Happy!! YEEEEHHHAAAHHHHHHHHH - I'll be southbound Pa Turnpike early manana to Philly airport, eventually to Backwater, SC. Calendar Magically Cleared... I WILL AUDIT WITHOUT LIES !!! & HERB SWEARS HOGS WILL DIE !!! + I can smell the $ching$ in the air - and it ain't even Spring !!!! YYYYEEHHHAAHH !!! Talk to you Damm Yankees in a few dayz.. later d00dz p.s. no JUNGLE HOOKERS this trip (I think)

Did a mini tour with my band back in 97 in SC.... we had a blast hanging with the folk down there. It always urks me when people judge and assume people are a certain way based on their demographic or by how they sound or look. IMO its one of the bigger problems society faces to date... Drake sounds like you stepped in a fresh pile of hot **** man, have fun... Trevor, hope all goes well for you with your multiple annoying situations...I know the feeling... On the other hand, being that my river frontage is so close to the trestle I would be more than happy to volunteer my piece as a trash pick up site if you arrange any type of trash collections through out your efforts... I can more or less get my truck almost back to the river more or less and have no problem volunteering in that way... just let me know. I imagine between rt. 52 and my place...

Left for Tennessee Wed Pm and just got back WHEW what a swoop.Decent roads though-Tonsa dead yotes in Tenn along the roads. NOW-- did anybody mention fishin??? HEY-got a nice Email- from Forrest Ranger Scott Jackson who works the SR area-will do what he can for us and advised that the CO's in the area were advised of our litter concerns too. Think maybee few more letters might just make the issue more memorable- maybe kinda spread out all the way till Shark Season. I replied that we were hopin for a bunch of pinches this year. Been a bit and havent seen any replies from McD -DSR or the PD in Pulaski.Perhaps they need a 'nudge' -- like bout 10 more letters.

Fella who does not fish or hunt asked me about the difference between Hunters and Fishermen the other day at a political meeting. My answer was simple and truthful in my experience. "welll if a hundred hunters go into a piece of woods and you go in a few days later you may well not even realize they had been there-but if there is a trout stream running through that same piece of woods and a dozen fishermen were there one day there will be trash all over the freakin place".

Trev, I don't know about that.. I fish some pretty popular rivers & streams in the ADK's that get as much pressure as the SR, The Ausable to name 1.. You never find the kind of trash from "dirty" fishers there, drive by window tossers yes but fishers, no.. To me the difference is.. Once you pull the trigger the game ends with hunters.. With a Fisher you have the option to release the quarry to catch another day.. Honestly I don't know why the SR is such a Toilet Bowl (as far as stewartship) when really it could be world class (here I go again) like other blue ribbon waters.. It all comes down to the type of "crowd" and I use that term loosely because there are good people that fish there..

Gotta think that its the easy availability to the water and readily available bedding, bars and food places too- Also just off the highway. Those guys in the ADS are like the guys I fished with in Scotia. Different fishing for natives in more 'pristine' waterways with few of the civilized ' niceties' close by.-whole different kinda crowd. Its almost like the SR has become a 'party place' for fishermen- not that its a bad thing just the mentality seems different for some.

RT - no matter how many petitions, regs, laws, yada yada, are instituted, it won't change much as long as "da DEC" packs em in during the Wild West Slammin season.. The real prob = the cancer has spread to the winter months.... just sayin.

Here is my take, It's the Lure of big fish, easy access along with local economy needs that fuel the fire.. Yea it's a party place, heck I party there and in the adk's but I treat both with respect.. I mean no disrespect to anyone but if there was a new "sheriff" in town that really wanted things better it would be better.. The Ausable,Saranac,Boquet and others also have good easy access and plenty fishers but nowhere near the trash as found in Oswego county.. Why ? Something is different and the only thing I can see is the Towns and County really seem to cater to the environment more then the fishers or hikers.. They have Rangers and forest service that walk the trails and streams, meet and greet people in the outdoors.. Believe me if you are caught being a "dirty bird" you pay dearly.. If a disgusting litter bug trashes an area they try with all their powers to track them down.. Now yes, there are bad apples there as well that go un found but nothing like the SR and thats a 6 million acre park not just a 13 mile river...

We have a Salmon River here in Ct too- Its a heavily stocked good sized river that gets a huge amount of attention from fishermen. The place gets hyped pretty good and the fishermen seem to have all gone there from time to time in these parts. It gets very crowded. Typically the Fly only area has very little litter and the rest of the accessible portions of the river are littered with fishing tackle containers of all descriptions as well as other stuff. Nearby streams and brooks with fishing thats just as good if not better have little or no litter beyond the immediately available water to parking areas and bridges. Makes me think its largely all bout the once in a while fishermen who go to the 'easy' places who have the least respect.

Given the large amount of people that fish the 40 mile stretch of the Lehigh River I know pretty well - from FEW REsovoir to Walnutport, (nowhere near a comparison to the SR #'s - but if yo add in the rafters, kayakers, etc) the #'s get closer, there is minimal trash found along the river.... Why I don't know, maybe the users are responsible, ANTI-PIG-SLOBS..

Its always gonna be that way too- hope we can just make it more difficult for some of the slobs and perhaps-just perhaps- slow it down a little bit. Fortunately the 'other fishing forum' is going through some of this same stuff and they are upset too- More the merrier.

Retired, this is a noble cause. I give you credit for all your efforts. I will continue to pack that large pocket in back of my vest with trash. Just a shame in general. My Dad would have never taken me fishing again if he saw me litter-anywhere.
