Loyalhanna lake outlfow

Does anyone do well here? I'm talking about the deep pool where the water comes out from the dam, I keep hearing it's a really great spot but I've tried twice and only managed to get a few perch..

It's hit or miss...even moreso than Conemaugh Dam. Also, it seems to be a place that rewards those who put the time in to figure it out. I don't fish it more than a handful of times each year, and never have done extremely well, mostly picking up some smallies here and there. But on several occasions, while I was there, other guys were rocking them.

What species of fish are in the outflow area and below it, the usual fish that are in most rivers around here?  Does it get stocked with trout? I drive near there roughly 3 times a week and stopped there once, at the outflow, but did not fish.  But I will  soon.

I'd imagine anything that's in the lake would be down there, this is from the site for the lake:

"Fishing is extremely popular at Loyalhanna with an abundance of inlets, coves and backwater areas to entice the angler. The lake contains plentiful amounts of crappie, bullhead, catfish, bluegills, largemouth bass and carp. Aside from these abundant species, anglers have the opportunity to battle a trophy-sized musky or tiger musky, land a walleye in the outflow and feel the hard hit of an occasional tiger trout from the headwaters. There are also small, but established populations of northern pike in the lake. Fishing is particularly good in the area where Serviceberry Run flows into the lake, and in the fast-paced waters of the outflow area below the dam."

There can be the occasional migratory trout that makes it through the outflow, or swims up from one of the numerous stocked tributaries that dump into the watershed(s) below the outflow, however I would not target them there.

Saugeye, Muskies, Smallmouth, and tons of freshwater drum from my experience there. Used to fish this place quite often, have done very well some years, not so hot the next.

I fished it a few years ago. Caught some big gills, small channels, rock bass, smallies, perch, one legal walleye, and rough fish. Beware the siren.

What are the shiny silver fish in the 15" range? Caught some, no idea what they are.

Something like that, but more silvery. I have a very blurry picture of them.

Saw a duud catch an Erie sized sheepshead at another army corps outflow last spring. He asked me what it was as well. Was huge, but skinny, probably still 6lb+ though.

I think some of you are misidentifying Sauger for Saugeye, that program was discontinued a couple years back. In recent years we've caught more Walleye than Sauger anyways, most being small ones though.
