Bait cast rod reel

Can anyone recommend a good quality/performance rod and mostly reel as a new large/smallmouth bass setup? I currently spin fish for them but looking to get a nice bait casting setup. As of now, I use a 7 ft. Ugly Stick with a Phlugher  President reel. Any suggestions?

love my st croix eyecon: 7 ft med-heavy with a moderate action, and my 6'8" Powell med-heavy, fast action. both have penn baitcasters.

The ABU Garcia are great. Check out the Pro Rocket series. Another good choice would be the http://www.fishusa.com/Pflueger-President-Baitcast-Reels_p.html. I have on these reels and it is an excellent reel for what you are describing. The Shimano reels are always good, but they can be a bit pricey if you want one that will last. I have two of these http://www.fishusa.com/Shimano-Calcutta-B-Baitcasting-Reels_p.html and they have served me well.

The rod is really up to what you are planning to throw. I think others will be better at making recommendations for you when it comes to rods.

Anybody use a bait-caster to float fish for steel?  Great way to get a natural drag free drift without a centerpin setup. i do it on the WNY tribs floating gobs of skein for kings and it's a blast. I just love fighting a big fish on a bait-caster. You can really put the wood to them.
