Lock 9 catfish?

would like to give it a try this summer...what time of year would be best and live or cut bait? are the catfish pretty sizeable? would there be a chance at a flathead or just channels?

Live bait, I know people use suckers and bluegill for flatheads.

If you have any old shrimp in the freezer you can use that and liver on a circle or treble hook works I hear some guys even use cut up trout for bait as well..  I was considering trying beef liver this year... Has anyone ever used sardines or any canned fish of the sort for bait?

Josh - from my experience I'd say use live bait and cut bait (as well as livers, etc). Some nights live is way better but some nights its only cut that works. I say nights because thats usually when I get out, but you can catch em in the day too.

As for channels vs. flats I'm not sure how far up Lock 9 is, but I'm guessing there could be a chance at flats. Plenty down here in around locks 2 & 3.

yes, should be flats aplenty. we get LARGE flatheads at mouth of Clarion river, several miles upstream of #9.

I usually use cut bait. Seems to work for me. I've used live bait and done ok but never as good as cut bait.
