Don't know first hand but talked with a buddy that lives on the lake and he said its froze solid for the most part but still had a few open spots in
The middle. He lives up near Tuttle. I'll try and get a first hand look at it tomorrow. It's been in the teens since early Friday morning so I'm thinking with low teens tonight it should finish freezing. The warm up Monday and Tuesday with rain again is going to hurt though. I'll post if I get over there tomorrow

    ORIGINAL: frost
The warm up Monday and Tuesday with rain again is going to hurt though.

It got to -5 last night and is -2 right now.  Prolonged warm-ups and rain is not good.  However, in our neck of the woods, I'm of the mindset that occasional warms-ups and brief periods of rain followed by bitterly cold nights is the best scenario for ice development.  The brief warm-ups keep the insulating snow at bay and actually allows for fast ice development.  I'm not sure if Pymy got a lot of snow, but most of the lakes up here (Erie, Crawford, Chautauqua counties) have at least 1' of snow with a couple having 2-3'.  Tomorrow won't hurt much unless the rain is non-stop, which according to the forecast is definately a possibility.  But Tuesday night we dip right back down into the teens.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for later this week or this weekend.

Thanks for the updates on Pymy Frost...keep us posted!

I know short periods of warm ups is good with slight rain, but when the ice is fresh and not very thick it hurts. There is no snow on any of the new ice so there is nothing to protect the new forming ice from the rain. And with 2 days and a night above freezing with the rain followed by 2 days below freezing then back to the 40's and upper 40's it's not looking promising. Especially when the lows are only 30-31 most of the nights.

Well, I thought after the recent bout of cold weather, enough ice would have formed on the county dam to be safe to fish on. Got all bundled up, loaded up my gear and off I went. Upon my arrival, to my surprise there was no one fishing. I parked and got out and walked to the edge of the dam. The ice was snow covered. No indication that anyone had fished there at all. The upper end of the dam still had some open water. The upcoming forecast for rain and warmer weather will not help in regard to forming thicker ice.

How did the person who invented the first clock know what time it was?

I got a wet leg at Edinboro today.  Open water in spots on Lakeside.  Less than an inch of shore ice everywhere I checked...including the fingers.

Just left eaton. 98% of Ice is good there are a couple soft spots I hit 1 with spud n it went through pretty easy, that was 40 yds off shore pa side by launch. We spudded out to middle all good ice 4-6" walked back got shack only fished a couple hours got 3 gills n a small crappie. If you go out bring a spud just to be on safe side. Ill be heading out tomorrow after work.
