How did you do muzzle loading

I never got out till 12:00 but saw 11 doe in one group and pushed a buck past a friend, who was ready to pull the trigger, when he bolted. He thinks he heard the hammer being cocked.

Started the morning with the end of my rod stuck in the barrel. Had to shoot it into a dirt mound, never did find it. Used my cap lock rod, which was 6" longer.

    Mika-
Depress the trigger when corking -very carefully- release the trigger and slowly release the hammer -just to be sure its locked in place- there will be no click sound.
Unless ya foul it up then there will be a loud noise. Have done it  when they are close under the stand or spooky passing close in a blind.

Didn't go out.  Waiting for snow.  I love to track and still hunt the late season.  Since I don't need any more venison I'll wait for better conditions or sit it out completely this year.  Feeling a cold coming on.  Been fighting it off for a few days, but I think I'm losing the battle.  Kinda depressing being off all this week and not having tracking snow.  Might as well take it easy and rest for better days.

Guy..I,ve done that. When my bud told me what happened I thought like you,
but I guess it was trotting and he was cocking as he pulled the gun up.

Forward Township, Allegheny County 2B......Went out early, before light, at 7:30 had 8 guys push the 20 acre plot I was in with NO sightings. Moved to another location, saw 2 hunters, stayed till noon and saw nothing.(the 1/2 hour nap was fantastic though) Went back out at 3:00, third location, sat till dark and saw nothing. I did hear several shots throughout the day. Hope they are moving prior to the rain, and also after the snow lands.

Sat till 9AM, no deer seen. Participated in drives for the remainder of the day, deer kept circling us and going back the way they came from.

One one drive, I see a deer jump up and run right at me. I'm hunting for a buck, this was a doe, but when it gets closer I can see it's limping pretty badly. I made a split second decision to try and put this deer down and eased down to one knee and locked the hammer back. Figures the deer stops behind a tree top at 30 yds not offering a clear shot. It then takes off again and across the logging road I was on and as it crossed I aimed and squeezed......clean miss, shot high I believe. There is alot of air around these things when shooting a flinter...

On another note, headed out soon this AM, hopefully rain waits for a few hours after daylight. One guy jumped a nice buck yesterday, showed me where and suggested a stand to sit in.

I hunted 3:00 pm till dark Monday.I had a great hunt had a adult doe and 2 fawns at 15 yards, then a solo tank doe at 4:45 less than 20 yards, then a limping messed up doe at dark 30 yards.I sat in a blow down with the X-bow I past on all shots although tempting. Today hunted in the rain saw 2 doe 35 yards then 3 doe jumped from their beds they popped up long enough for a shot(20 yards} but again all doe and pasted (slow creeping X-bow).Still looking for the elusive Pa.buck.Would like some cold snowy weather to bring out the flint.Maybe tommorow.I'm done today got a little wet even with my goretex bibs so they must be leaking somewhere.

Went out today...silhouetted a big boy at 7am 200 yards out....waited til he broke over the knob. I moved 1/2 way up to him and moved into my spot 20 yards off the field. 7:45 Started to sleet then rain by 8. Weather man said not before 10am. WRONG AGAIN. Decided to call it quits and went to do a 360 scan when I saw movement behind me. I had 9 doe walk by me at 20 yards. As they got out past me to 50 yards they must have winded me as the white flags went up (or were they surrendering?? LOL). One minute a later there was a fellow hunter took out the lead doe. He had only got to see the first two. He shot a doe in the same spot yesterday. This same 10 acre plot has more tracks in it than I have ever seen anywhere. The guy said he shot a 12 pt. first day, but never found it. I THINK I'll be back in there.............Come on snow....

I wasn't hunting and most of what I saw had nothing to do with muzzleloading, but in my neck of the woods 2B was absolutely hoppin with meat hunters and slug guns.  There was more shooting yesterday than all throughout regular gun season.  Really sickens me to see how many problems the extended doe season in 2B causes.  But who would have guessed leaving one fraction of the state open for doe killing for 6 more weeks with any weapon would have concentrated idiots?

I also saw a good sight yesterday while on the parkway.  2 guys in a newer SUV that quite possibly had every Bone Collector/Easton/Realtree big buck sticker available at Cabelas plastered over every inch of available window space with a 50# button buck on their tow hitch rack.  Congrats to the lucky alpha hunters!!

I'm working 6 straight days this week, so no hunting, but in talking with the customers most are not having any luck finding deer so far. I did have to stop on the way in this morning for 6 does to run across the road just outside of "downtown"

I'll have to wait til next Wednesday to get in any hunting... have NOT seen any deer in the pastures or backyard.. ?? ... so not sure what I'll do when I do get out next week... maybe have to try Clear Creek after I scout it some on Sunday... or the hemlock behind the house if I get to check it out on Sunday too.. I would like to see some snow instead of all this rain, everything around here is soaked and muddy as hell ...

Went out first day, sat in my cabin from 10 AM til dark. Didnt see anything. Came out of the woods headed down thru the golden rod field towards the pasture. Kicked 10 deer out of the pasture. Should have been in the blind setup in the pasture.

Going into the woods at 6:45, snowing near white out conditions but nothing on the ground yet. Sat down at 7:00 snow had stopped with just a dusting.Winds  were whipping. Saw 6 heading to the field at 7:40 winded me and bolted. Trees started snapping winds were ferocious. Made it till 9:00 and decided was not worth it. Wind chill had to be in single digits. Jumped 3 doe out in a 1/2 acre hollow on the way out. Heading back out into 2c for the afternoon/evening hunt.

Hit 2c near Hecla 3:00pm. I had 3 doe stand up before I stepped off hard road. They only moved out 10 yards then we had a staring battle for 20 minutes. Got in my spot watched 2 break the field on the other side of the farm. Then 20 minutes later I saw 2 more break that same field. Saw nothing from 4:30 til dark. Winds were kicking**** but not bad in the hollow I was in. Very pleased with the quantities I have been seeing. Just need to find one with some head gear.

Hunted with the flint on Wedsday we had a dusting of snow, saw one solo deer in the morning( I'm guessing a B.B. hunted till noon, then back out at 3:00 till dark had great hunt saw mommy and twin fawns at 30 yards then moved a few hundred yards to another sit,I just sat down and a huge doe(should of had horns) and two large fawns walk by me at point blank (maybe 10 yards)they never saw or smelled me.Do deer know your not going to shoot them? I saw 17 flatheads in 3 days, and could have killed 7 with the X-bow or flint. Still looking for a legal buck.It was a white out wintery mix and I did not hunt this morning but will later if it doesn't rain.Bucks or bust,I'm thinking bust.

Went out yesterday and sat downwind of a nice trail coming out of a swamp.
Sat for an hr. when from behind me(down wind!) came 4 doe. They smelt me and stopped.
They trotted past me as I was dumb founded to have them come from that direction.
About 3 minutes later here comes 2 beagles on their trail. Now I know why they came from that way!
It was a hike out of there so left before it got dark. Just as I was getting close to my truck,
there stood a big doe watching me walk by.. and as I watched her I see 2 more take off.
Guess I should road hunt..lol Going to my tent in a few minutes...good luck.

Got out yesterday AM. Had two silhouettes at 6:50 in the same spot as Weds. Waited till they walked into the woods. After a squall, quick dusting , I saw 2 running the other side of the hollow. Quit at 11:00.
Back out today, 6:50, had a silhoutte of one on a bench @ 15 yards. It would not raise its head. I laid down on the road still could not see the head. Laid there for 5 minutes, HE raised his head. Best guess it was a half rack, looked to be at least 5 on that side. Even with it still dark it looked like some serious mass. I've got to find away to get around this field, as they have been all in the same place and move the same direction all week. Or get some night vision optics...........
Found his track....look at your hand....palm to tip just covers it.....!!!!!!!!!
    D**N this is fun...........

If you guys spent more time in the woods and less time crying on the internet, you would see more deer. But I forgot that takes EFFORT.
