twin lakes

just got in from the lower lake, the bay by the gazeebo is frozen over, the rest of the lower lake & I hear the upper lake as well is open. The boat house is on winter hours(8am-3pm)for now. Jimmys has bait now, as well as Greensburg Wallmart,no minnows that I know of. I hear that the bait store in New Alex.(6 bouys I think)has minnows. sam

Fished both lakes for a couple hours yesterday. No trout caught just this guy. there was still ice in the area you mentioned yesterday afternoon, don't know if it'll be there today.

Fished the lower lake this afternoon,it was a little muddy from the rain yesterday. There were about 1/2 doz.guys out, saw a few trout caught on bait on the bottom, but we were surprized to catch quite a few gills & Crappie on jigs & meat. No slabs though, most were barely legal. This surprized me as we have been catching nicer fish all fall. sam

    Sam

Trout still pretty lethargic then or did they straighten out?  I don't know what happened last time we were out, with that many fish I figured they would be a little easier to catch.

Loomis,They always slow down as the water gets colder, that is why baitfishermen do better than lure throwers now on average. Also while I am sure that there are a lot of trout left, they are pretty much scattered now. I usualy catch more now from about 11 am to 3pm,also watch the surface when you can to spot small rises then cast to them if possible & scale down your lure. The fish that we were catching were very close to the surface, about 18" down.If you have time try the wooded side of the lower lake, It gets very little pressure year round. As far as numbers go,remember that when the club put fish in the first week of Nov. they only put approx. 150 nice trout in each lake,if the majority of guys don't release the fish,it doesn't take too long to thin the numbers even with the small amount of guys out. sam

We were seeing the same thing going on, the fish were coming up sporadically, but we were fishing well below them if you guys were getting them at 18 inches that's for sure....Those trout out there can be tough but since I don't keep any I'd prefer not to fish the bottom w/ bait....Ill have to try the other side, we are kind of stuck on fishing down from the cattails..

Thinking of taking the fly rod out and slow dragging some bead heads out there to see how that does.
