Last year on Dec 9, Lake Erie water temp was 37 deg f. Today it is 46 deg f. 10 degree difference. Lake Erie temp hit 34 deg f on Dec 15 last year and that was the first day I was out ice fishing on Mosquito. Last year it took approximately 3 weeks for Lake Erie water temp to drop from 46 to 37 deg f. All that being said, I would say we have at least a few more weeks before we have safe inland lake ice. Wish it was sooner though!

I think it's going to be tough going this year for PI ice. Even if we get fishable ice by mid-late January, I'm afraid we're in for a lot of freeze / thaw cycles throughout the winter. The up side to that is the creeks will stay open longer.

i was out on the ice yesterday for the first time, got into bunch of perch. most were small, but it sure was nice to be on the ice :)

I ice fished Dec. 15th last year... Even if it gets cold next week, no fishable ice here until January...

Minnesota. The ice around me has trying to survive though the warm spell we have had the past 2 days. Suppose to get cold again starting tomorrow night *crossing fingers* It is nice having a 1200 acre lake 30 paces from my steps to walk out on now, and the driving access literally 1st gear away from my place.

Yeah I say January 21st for me, yesterday there were a few marinas with a thin layer of ice over then around the south end of the bay

i mostly ice fish pymi and i think it will be around jan 21st as most are saying.
