Wow interesting markings and features on that ho(maybe cross breed???) there.... are you where I think you are in that pic???? I see the hill in the background.... are there 2 diversions back behind you there????

Hey; regardless, you didn't get skunked, nice fish... I would imagine with the amount of coho we had this year we will be seeing even more winter run hoes this year than the past few.... nice job and keep em coming...

This is one of those deals where the fish looks  ALOT  bigger because it was out in front of me  12 to 14 inches tops.  Caught this in Orwell Creek below a pool of spawning Ho's. There were 10 to 12 fish spawning in this large shallow pool.   Although I would not say it was loaded we saw probably 30 to 40 HO's in varying states of decay in about a mile stretch.  We were looking for browns other than this small rainbow  no luck at all.  Caught on an orange nuke egg.
RT most if not all of the Ho's we saw did NOT have the fin clip

Thanks for the info Clint- biologist said bout 57% of the river Hos are natural.
This is a bit late for them to still be in the tribs spawning in any numbers- still think the whole season was a bit late.
Last winter there were some dead and dying Hos in the  LFZ real late so I guess they are tending to stay much longer than in the 'old days' --good.

I know this is the SR board, but the coho converstion caught my interest. I fish the more western NY tribs several times a year and have really been noticing what seems to me an increase in late cohos. One very small no name stream in particular has been getting nice runs of very nice, fresh hos later than I recall them being there.(in numbers anyway) I find this exciting as just as you guys are saying with the river, I believe a good bit of these fish are wild. Neat stuff.

Isn't it pretty cool BT. Last year I saw a spawning pair in early march and there were quite a few I saw in early february....

Clint: nice little rainbow you got there; almost looks like she had dropped her eggs already...

She was pretty flabby down there so I think so too.    Snowing like a mother right now here.   DB I don't think I made it up quite far enough to be exact, but I was close.  I looked today when taking the dog to the vet and I saw a drift fishing there today.
