Cripp's Stone

I took a drive out to 20 Mile on Saturday just to take a walk along the stream and to sit on the bench by Terry's stone and just think about the good ol' days with a dear friend. I was disgusted to see that someone had scuffed up the stone pretty bad. There were lots of scrapes and gouges on the surface. What a shame!

Aw, that's awful. I always made sure to clean it off when I went by it. It was OK last month, told Skip he had to cut the grass around it, which he did. D amn shame.

loopy, the world is full of misfits and rejects that haven't the sense that God gave a goose. your intentions with the stone are still inspiring and admired and i am sure 'the cripp' still sees it as being unblemished. karma always prevails.

Sad but you know the Crip would say they was just cleaning off their boots. He always was able to make folks look at the bright side of life . We could use his insight on the board lately it is just plain boring.

I noticed it scratched up last Spring.
Maybe it was covered in snow and was accidently stepped on. I dunno.

KARMA! Must have been one of the guys crying about "There aren't any fish...I can't catch any fish..."

They will (or in this case will not) get theirs sooner or later.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Although it is too bad that someone had to cause damage to this wonderful tribute, I can just hear Cripp saying "Cripp is also a little scratched and chipped, but Cripp is okay.  Cripp's stone is too.  It is part of the character that makes Cripp Cripp."

I was there today and saw the damage. My thought on this is that it should be elevated and installed on a angle.I tend to believe that the damage could very well have been accidental and during the winter when it was covered by snow.
And the stream was high and dirty and no fish were interested.

mounting it up would be the best idea we could mount it to another stone like a foundation stone or larger cut it into a shape and polish edges that whay no more problems.

I believe the scratches came from a mower deck. Looks like it could have been scratched when maintenance mowed around it and got to close scraping the deck across the stone. At least thats what I could tell from the damage. I noticed it when I took the weed eater down there to clear away the high grass. It looked like they stopped getting close to it for a long time. The grass was almost completely covering the stone. It would only take maintenance less than 2 minutes to keep it neatly trimmed when they are there.

Looked at it today. Looks like damage from mabee the lawnmower deck and screws in boots.

If you want give me a call and I can meet you out there anytime except between 10 and 2...

If not the stone is only about 100 yards or so towards the lake from the parking lot

It was fine when I saw it in early October, and later, after Skip cut the grass around it.
