Labrador

We've seen some great pics of Alaska posted here; thought I'd add a few of Labrador from a trip my wife and I took many years ago.  The trip took about a month, all told.  No guides; just figured it out as we went along.  Always thought I'd go back, but so far still haven't.  Those of you who have also fished Labrador, I'd love to hear about your experience.

The one fly-in we did--found a local pilot who was just opening a camp.  Said he'd fly us to the lake if we paid for gas.  Unbelievable fishing--like Erie, only Arctic Char instead of steelhead.  Fish were stacked like cord wood, maybe five or six deep.

Forget what river this is, but had it all to myself (I'm the speck pretty much right in the middle of the pic).  Caught nice lakers right on the surface.  Some monster land locked salmon, but never was able to hook any of those although I could see them feeding.

A decent brookie, not big by Labrador standards at all, but still a nice fish.  Also caught atlantics (few and far between), pike, and whitefish.  I think that was about it.

The auto train.  Took ferry to Labrador; put car on train to go out down through Quebec.  No one knew if or when this train ran; camped by tracks a couple days waiting for it.  Good thing it did come because we were basically out of gas.  A fun trip.

Sorry--pics didn't come through.  Don't do this often enough--always forget how I do it.  I'll figure it out in a moment.

Nice. My dad and uncle fished there about 15 or 20 years ago...

Thanks much for sharing. I've read so much about Labrador and the brook trout there. Must be amazing.

D-Nymph--close! That was 1987 I think.  Glad folks enjoyed the pics.  Here are a few more:

The char fought hard and pretty much through the full repertoire of tactics--
strong runs, jumps, and bull dogging down deep.  A fun fish.

We looked for the highest, windiest, most exposed places to camp.  The idea
was to try and get some relief from the constant swarms of bugs.  I guess
that's why the fish are so big...

This was actually a pretty good section of the road through Labrador.
Don't know what it's like today, but back then there was absolutely nothing there.

If you were only retired and could travel to exotic fishing locales any time you wanted.

a.)  were you driving a sedan through all that wilderness?  It looks like it in one of the pictures.  if so, you are  a braver soul than i

b.) digital cameras obviously take very detailed and wonderful pics, but there is something charming about developed photos

c.) That seems like an awesome trip.

Accountant: here's the car.  It was a relatively warm and dry summer that year--
bad for the salmon fishing,  but probably the reason we didn't end up stuck out
in the middle of nowhere.  We probably should've worried more about that than we did...

DT--maybe this would make a good postcard shot too.  Though she does have
her fingers in its gills...  Oh, and whenever the  motor home leaves, count me in!

When I saw the title of this thread, I expected a black dog with a tossle cap and cigarette.

My Wife said, if I go fish'n one more time, she'll leave me! God, I'm going to miss her!
