Steelhead on Elk......Oh yeah they are there!!!

Wasted the past two weeks trying to find good numbers of steelhead on the east side and went back to my old honey hole on Upper Elk. Boys, the Steelhead were stacked up on Rick Road and I took 2 rookies w/ me who never fished for steelhead. I spent the morning teaching them the ins and out of this great sport as they are bass fisherman. During the morning, each one of them hooked up 3 times in the first 15 minutes and proceeded to land 15 nice chromers between them. After lunch, I broke out my rod and got 12 myself during the afternoon w/ constant hook ups all afternoon. I will be fishing upper Elk until the tribs freeze up this winter as that is where the fish are. I love the reports of no fish in Elk. Keep those reports coming and keep fishing by the lake, Walnut, and the east side tribs. I will stay on Upper Elk. One of the fish we were able to land was a monster 32 1/2 inch/ 12.75 lb buck. All fish released back to fight another day.

No wonder the east side has less fish this year. They're all in Elk. I bet it's not crowded too. See you all there! Rick Rd., huh?

    Naw...... Chautauqua Creek is closer................

17 vehicles at Sterretania, 14 at Rick Road today at 2;00 pm. My son and I fished upper Elk today. We each caught fish, saw lots of fish, had a ball. Son caught his personal best today, probably a good 10 pounder. My camera died or I would have posted it.

Sorry you wasted time on the "east side" I know it sucks over there.

Glad you had a great day on elk and it was nice of you to teach a few newbies all about the game. I hope you have more great days in the future.

lol You guys are crazy.  Not many anglers will fish it as long as all those trees are in every hole and no fish in sight.  I doubt 75% of the people I see fishing elk could even catch a single steelhead in crooked, maybe a few creek chubs or a 7" pellet head.  It's certainly not comparable to 20 mile or elk which are both loaded with fish and in plain sight.

I had to work my butt off to catch 1 fish there last Friday, and 2 fish last Saturday.  Probably had to change my leader once on every single hole from getting snagged casting back into the trees, which is the only places where the steel are holding.  You can't even see any fish in the stream, unless you walk and catch a stray one or two moving between holes.

Actually I heard that walnut has a nice hole by the bridge. Don't tell anyone cause it might get overcrowded.
Walnut is the new crooked, which is the old 20 mile, which was the new elk.

Where is this Rick Road? Is it accessible by jet ski? Also, where is the Rick Road boat launch? Thanks in advance.

Not worth the trip. It's overrun with Burbots. Hardly any native Steel left.

I just heard from a reliable source that there is natural steelhead reproduction at the Rick Road boat launch on Elk Creek. Please try not to tell too many people, because this secret could really hurt the wild steelhead population of Erie.

Same old story. I thought things had changed, maybe they have for the most part. But you know that old adage 100 people at party just takes one to make it a police raid.
Should any body see three guys above Sterretania two with Skeeter jumpsuites and one with bullhorn and a copy of LL Beans "Introductory to Fly Fishing" please encourage them to take up golf. Oh. does any body have the GPS numbers on that honey hole. "Beam me up Scotty"
