I was just commenting on the SST's from Hornady in General hunting.
If your gun likes them, the 2000ft/sec with 300 grains is quite a round for a 2 3/4. My Mossberg loves them, my Ithica doesn't.

Just went to the range today. After making some adjustments I was 1inch high at 75 yards using Remington copper solids 2 3/4 inch. I used federal Barnes expanders last year and performed well on the deer I shot with it.

Just out of curiousity, if the Federals performed well on the deer you shot with them, why change?

My Mossberg 500 likes 2 3/4" Lightfield sabots. The deer hate 'em

The Remington Copper solids in 2 3/4" shot well out of my gun as well, but as E&G said, $$$$$. Think the last time I bought a couple packs of Lightfields they were about $7 or $8 for 5.

Do yourself, and your shoulder, a favor and don't shoot 3" sabots.

Pretty much. The federals I used last year were 14.99 for a box of 5. The remingtons that I shot with today were on sale 7.99 a box. Plus, I have heard alot of good things about the remington copper solids and thought I would try some.

Come a long way lately from the old box of 25 for about 5 bucks. Pain 20 yesterday for a box of 06. Still had a few left from my old box that said 12 on it.
Fella at the store said the prices of metal is drivin the price of ammo.

I bought some Hornady SSTs yesterday to try out of my Mossberg as suggested in the other thread. They were $9.99 a box at _icks sporting goods. Lightfields, winchesters, and remingtons were all $14.99 or more for a box of 5. One of these years I'll learn to shop after the season and buy some of the clearance stuff.....(but, I am usually done in archery season and don't have to worry about it so I have only my own ineptness to blame!).

Remington Copper Solids on sale at that retailer's location in Butler today for $9.99. Not sure how long that'll last or if it's at all locations. Lightfields were $15

My Browning A-Bolt slug gun loves the Winchester Partition Golds. 12 Ga. 2 and 3/4 inch. 3 inch slugs will rock your teeth but the 2 and 3/4 inch are dead on to 150 yds.  I buy a top of the line slug gun 14 years ago for NY State and they go to rifle this year. Figures. Imagine ARs are on the ticket in the near future.
