Is it on yet?

Hey guys. Did they stock the steelhead yet? I am new, just bought my waders and ready to catch some big steel for sure! When do they usually stock them?

    Huh?

i think that's what we're all saying,  duud

They stock the steelies in the Spring .
But i wouldn't wait if i was you, cause they're  not all that fun, nor challenging to hook and land   ...cause they're  5" long steelie smolts and will bite a bare hook drifted thru the water

there is an  abundance of steel in the creeks NOW.
They  were stocked 2 and 3  years ago.

That's how it works with steelies.
They get stocked  every Spring as 1 year old smolts, skedaddle out to the lake for 2 years  to grow up, then cruise back into the creeks in the Fall looking for a  steelie of the opposite sex to get next to

    Go on and get 'em

    I donno
at least for the last 20 years I've been fishing

maybe you don't this , or maybe your just yanking our chain (we gotz some wise guys here)
but when they stock them, they're just 5 inch  "babies"
they go out to the lake for two years , then return in the Fall to spawn as mature 5 to 9 pound steelhead .

The majority of the fish we're catching now were stocked as 5" juveniles  (called "smolts") and dumped in  by the millions  (literally)  in the Spring of '09

to answer your original question "is it on", the answer is YES.
have you seen any of the pics posted here??
Those are from "right now" and the last month or more ..it's the peak of the steelie  season in Pa from now til the creeks freeze up.
There's as many fish as there's going to be in the creeks right now

lace up those wadin' boots , tie on a fly, or gob of bait and go get 'em

it just occurred to me that  maybe you're confusing the Fall "run" with the actual "stocking'" of smolts in the Spring

the steelie program doesn't work like the inland trout truck stockings

at any rate, the steelies are all over the place in the Erie Pa tribs right now

    it's "game on"
