Thanks. I gave them a call and they don't open until 10am. I was hoping to get on the water around daybreak and am looking for something that opens earlier. I found a bp station that sells minnows and they open at 5:30, but they are a little ways from the lake. I was hoping there might be something closer to rt 18.

Slabseeker, I think the baitshop just outside of Clark (I think rte 258 maybe a mile away from the Rte 18 intersection toward Mercer) may be open yet. Possibly someone local may be able to fill you in with additional information phone number, etc. I know he carries minnows, grubs, crawlers and fishing supplies. He gives a good count and is reasonable. Lou

The R&L shop is a nice little store. Has alot to choose from. Depending on where you are coming from it might be a little out of the way. The shop on rt. 258 I am 95 percent sure he is closed til spring. Nothing wrong with bills field and stream sometimes they arent open til 10 or so. 5 points in orangeville opens the earliest at 6am.

The most reliable shop, at this time of year, is the one at 5 points. A little out of the way but a lot of shortcuts to get back to Mahaney or campground launch. Go early. They'll be open when you get there. Great minnow count and all the latest jigs, spoons, and cranks that are working right now. Also the coffee and samiches are top notch too. They've been my baitshop for at least 15 years. Always some really nice women working there too.

Although its prob a little farther then the others, another thumbs up for R and L Bait and Tackle. More Musky lures there than any place around, plus bigger minnows.

Thanks for all the info. I ended up going to 5 points since it was the only one open early.

chauncy, I did okay, but not as many big ones as I expected. I was out in the middle of October and caught some real slabs 14-15" and most were 11-13". I still had a good time and caught enough to keep me interested. You were right about the 5 points bait shop, too. They are not stingy with their minnows. I ask for 3 dz and I think I got twice that many.

I bought 2 dozen a couple weeks ago for backup because i didn't know if the guy that was meeting me at the lake needed them or not. Didn't need them. They kept for over 2 weeks in the bucket. I changed the water a few times. Finally gave them away last tuesday. Still had over 3 dozen lively ones in that bucket too. If anyone is coming up this way, TRY to bring bait with you. It's a 25 minute round trip from rt 18 launch to shop and back.
