CP - qlad you had a good trip. Got up Tues night and fished and did wet leaves in the yard for 3 days-cloudy in the high 50s and a little bit of sun here and there with a shower or two. River still the same as it was all year now with a little murk after the showers. Leaves not really too bad. The crowds are GONE cept for below Altmar bridge and a few easily accesible places like Ellis- a short hike and you can fish alone in many places now. Wed eve at 5 PM there were NO fly guys in the kiddie pool- a couple up in the rapids but - nobody home. Crowded below the bridge though.- go figure??, Hey- the upriver fishing is GREAT- some really huge Kings and enough Steel to make it worth while up river- Hos are there but not like usual. Think the flow and weather this year has the whole season working bout 2 weeks late. Browns are still a rarity. LOADED with kings and they are bedding now- steel here and there behind the beds if ya high stick over the bed and drop the tip as it goes behind you may get some- I did. Landed a coupla Steel each day on blue sacs while loosing others and some big King males in the mouth on them too. Could watch the fish shy from bright colors and large flies like my popsicles but the pressure is low now and they will strike darker red and blue smaller stuff. Had a blue sac cloth on the hook and threw on a dull red rubber egg and watched the Jacks snap it a few times. Larger kings too. Had a lot in the mouth and on the tongue with red and blue stuff. Hey Dime that droppin the loop and rod tip is just what you said- HARD to get used to. Its unnatural to watch them snap it and not strike them right away. Again think it will last longer than usual this season. BTW Get together still on for Nov 4th- let me know it your coming if ya can.

Rt; not sure if im gonna make the 4t but I will let you know.. 900 should do some wonders for the river and it will keep the crowds down... i love that level of water while many get discouraged with it... Hey; check the hatchery and beaver dam out; I think that's where all of your hoes are at ;) went there on Sunday.... thousands of coho... I imagine the upper fly is loaded with them too...

Dime- thanks for the Ho info.have been disappointed with their numbers in the upper river this year- They have been there but not like the past few years. Many places where generally find them have little to no water in this 350 or so flow. Gotta wonder if this flow has caused them to keep going upstream looking for more suitable water. Not that its been better for them up there - but they may have been continuing up looking. Was getting concerned bout their numbers so this was good news.

Hey- kinda looks like any rain from now on may result in some flow- ---later this week its gonna rain again up there according to the 10 day and be kinda dry for a week or so. A second increase in several days would really set the place up for the next few weeks.

Word is the res is pretty much full and a good soaking is predicted. Ithink they are trying to stay 1 step ahead rather than HAVEto play catch up and pushing 2000cfs if it really pours.

Dime , yuo need to only hire guys who love to fish. That way inviting them up and bustin' their humps for 6-7 hrs, then taking them on the river will make it seem like your giving them some great vacation. Woulda worked for me when I was younger. If an employee asks you if a steelhead is some kind of fastener, fire their azz. Charlie

Myself and the gang will be up this weekend working in the snow and rain; if you're up feel free to stop on by and warm your bones by the bonfire... the invite is extended to any of the board regulars... Must be different in my fishing than a lot of guys- to me this is the best time of year and I go nuts not being up there every day. Therefore cant figure why this place was so very busy with activity in August and early Sept when fishing was irregular at best compared to now. Know Deer hunting and colder weather keep some away but this - IMHO- is the very best time to be on the river.

RG I was out Wed. Other than a rubber ducky and late season king nothing worth reporting and I already posted about the ducky. The king snapped me as I tried to get the camera out while holding the leader,6 weight rods are not designed for muscling kings at the bank, in an attempt to get a pic of the fly well back in his tongue. No chrome for me downstream from long bridge for me and I didn't see any hooked. Now life and my neck healing to a point I can't work again start getting in the way. I'd be there every day til Dec if I could.

Think I'll wait a month or two for the 5 or 6 wt and stay with the 8 for now.Too much chance for a late king or nice Ho for a while. Lovin that new Switch rod with the lamson. Notice DSR reported late Kings yesterday. They oughta last a while. Had them right through late Nov last year- not a lot but they were there and NOT zombies either.

I was there from Oct 6 - Oct 23rd and, the river was low the full period. I'm thinking because of the problems last year with drownings and near drownings, they didn't want a repeat this year. The run seemed to slow after the 16th. I fished the Sportsman Pool, behind the Salmon River Museum. There were numerous salmon when I started out but it was noticeably slower during the latter period.
