I fished in that stuff last weekend out of huron ohio. It was pretty wild. It was like fishing in a big bowl of green pea soup. It was nasty. It even has a caustic smell to it. In some of the thicker areas it was flying off of my wake like green biscuit sized mud parties. I felt like I was fishng in radio active slime. It was bright green at times.
Believe it or not but the fish were in the thick of it. Several times i saw fish pushing bait up against the green ceiling to feed. We pulled 3 hogs in the 8-9lb range out of the slop.
The algae bloom is caused too many chemicals and fertilizers in the water. There is a lot of farm run offs that drain into the pond. A lot of the chemicals also come from the stuff we wash down the drain too, like shampoo and detergents.
When the algae dies in the fall, the decomposition process sucks the oxygen out of the water. You can fill I.the blanks on what happens next.
I just hope they (the govt) can fix it before its to late..........
