Flyrods - I'm taking a poll

What is more common, 2 piece, 3 piece, or other?

I like mine all 3 or 4 PC Just for traveling reasons..... I store 4 rods all the way up to my Switch rod in one 4" Tube 42" Long and I have room for 2 more when I get around to building them...

mine is 9'6" and it's only a 2 piece, so it's rather long, and hard to fit in the car without worrying about breaking it...

    thanks for the response Skip!

I have 2 piece, 3, 4, and 6 piece rods. The 6 travels better, but tends to loosen at the joints if you don't keep checking it, as do most rods except there are more joints to check. The 4 and 3 are just on the edge of fiting in a suitcase (9'6" and 9'). The 12 footer is a four piece and is still almost 3'6" packed. So if you are looking for a good packable rod I'd recommend 4 piece. For ease of use 3 piece. And while I like my 6 piece it does need watching and seems a little stiff.

thanks guys! I'm asking because of the projects that I am making for the One Fly...
so far the one that I made turned out better than I imagined... and I made it for a 2 piece rod with an extra pocket to add a dowel rod for added protection, if you choose....  it would also work for a 3 piece rod without the dowel rod, it's just a little longer than it needs to be, unless you have a 3 piece 12'+ rod. lol

Amy, Making the longer ones is usually best because most of the multi-piece rods that I have seen (I'm sure there are exceptions) already come with cases. With most of the longer rods cases must be purchased seperately.

you're welcome Skip, I'm glad I had these colors of fabric lying around

I'd really like to try and recycle some breathable waders into some of these but I don't have any to experiment with, yet.
on that note, if anyone would like to donate their leaky breathable waders, and want one custom made to fit your rod, bring them to the One Fly :)

    nice work...

i do not want to steal any thunder from this thread, but since the topic is at hand, at kmart, lowes, walmart, etc. they carry a tool carrying tube that is the same design as a hardcase rod tube.  at 5 dollars, you save a lot not paying for the name on the tube.  It isn't just pbc pipe either; 2 cloth sections for a piece 9 ft. rod.

MMM hotdogs in my belly make me happy guy. My wife says no no kyler, you stop eating you getting bigger you will need new waders

you can slide a dowel rod into a pocket if you have an xtra one to help give the rod a bit more protection from rod sock being bent with  the rod inside resulting in a broken tip, and could also help against certain crushing situations, mind you not as safe as one of those plastic rod cases or the metal ones but it can help a bit
