Thurs. Friday update, and Rambo

I fished Thursday and Friday above the black hole with my boys. They had about 5 hook-up each. I netted one nice female. On a light orange #8 fly, hooked on the tongue. While i watched my boys fish I must have met 10 - 12 men on the river that could not have been nicer. One 21 year old man stopped fishing for 45 min. and stayed next to my one son to teach him about the hole he was fishing and what fly he could use. One other fisherman around 70 years old also stopped by 3 times to help my boys swings some flies. That was great! BUT later in the day Rambo stopped by with camo paint on his face - a hook and weight on his line snagged 4 fish by my son. Which his way to fish and not much i could do. But when he had to cast in front of my son 5 times catching his line 3 times I had to talk to him about style of fishing. Rambo was less then happy to be called a snagger and that he can't keep catching my kids line when. As he left he told me I didn't know who i was talking to and I better watch it. Then he yelled up stream to his fellow snagger that we were catching our fish in the mouth and he's a snagger.I guess that was a joke on us. Well we only want to catch them in the mouth. That little run in did not ruin our day. Thanks to all of the great guys that stopped by.
One happy dad!

Always a Dbag in the mix.
Too bad this one felt he had to interfere with your sons fishing.
Glad you and the boys still had a great day!

Nice report and great to hear you didn't let Rambo ruin your day.. Kids fishing and helpful fishermen make for a great day.. I'm sure the memories will last a lifetime
Try that area mid Nov and you may be pleasantly be surprised

My brother-in-law was fishing the same area minding his business last Sunday with same results (Rambo).. He ended up getting sick of it and took the hook off his rig and casting a bobber (the big round red & white ones) across all 3 Rambo lines continuously, like they did to him, until they left.. Needless to say it was his only salmon "river" experience and wants nothing to do with salmon "river" fishing again..
On a good note he does want me to take him steelhead fishing

Another "tale of two rivers". Happens over and over again. There is some people on the river of high caliber (and I try like he!! to be one of them) that go out of their way to  be polite and  helpful, and then there's those that should have been stuffed in a sack and thrown in a pail of water at birth. No,  that's a little harsh , but it friggin' gets me rippin' to see that behavior, especially when it's done to kids. DEC should approach fining people like they do in  road construction zones- fines are doubled when the infraction occurs  in the presence of children.
I'm glad you had a great time and got beyond the bad parts.

DEC was at the black hole and staircase today. a man and a woman looking out and another man in a truck to confront people. checked my fish and license and asked if we were snagging because he has been in this business for 22 years and salmon do not bite and you have to snag them. Im sure he was just trying to pry info out of us or something then went about his business. Struck me alittle wierd but oh well

In the late 70s that was standard belief by the DEC.
It carried over to steelhead and lake browns on the spawning run.
A friend used to carry a newspaper article with him cause it pizzed him off so much.

Now I hope it was more a tactic trying to get you to admit something.
Good cop bad cop kinda thing.

In the lfz on Sunday was nice enough to help my son out he was getting a fish on left and right he called my son over and handed him his fly rod and said young man get that fish in for me. Made his day he wasn't there when he was hooking up constantly but my son had no problem reeling it in for him. There are nice people out there we had one guy kept casting 3 times when my son had fish on and hooked his line and popped off fish I was ready to swim across well by then water across the water and give him a piece of my mind.

But when ever people had fish on my son continued to keep his line out of the water till he heard fish off.
