Thursday report
Well after face planting in my mac n cheese (feinted during dinner) my wife made me promise to take it easy and only fish the LFZ. Fished the bridge hole til ten. Felt lots of line bumps but the only fish I hooked was a dark king in he pec as I was reeling in to meet slayer and dump some extra flies on him. Ate a quick mickey Ds lunch,a quick stop in to see Malinda and back on the water by 11:45. All this boober flossing talk has got me wondering but I put on an indie and fished a spot with a quick sudden drop off. Hung 2 coho and a king all of which looked and felt fair (fishing my 6weight since the ceramic insrt fell out of the stripping guide on the 8) so there was little chance iof landing them without draining there reserve tanks. Got them all close enough to see before they decide to visit other people,I'm not that ugly(at least my wife tells me I'm special and the other kids are jealous),but when they saw me up close they obviously didn't like what they saw. Maybe they were lined but as soon as the boober went over the drop and sat upright bang bang bang. On the road 1:50.

Wow- welcome to the dark side? What was your setup with the indie if you don't mind me asking? 1 1/2 times water depth? How much & where was the weight? Just curious, you know- so we can spread the knowledge.

Well I nsaw a couple of guys using them, appeared to be white thingamaboobers and the few fish they hooked were fouled. Made me want to experiment so I saw slayer, had lunch and then went into see Malinda. While there I bought some tying thread and a pack of lightnig strike indies. There was a spot open with 2 seams coming together so I fired up the boober to the outside seam, threw a giant stack behind it running to the connecting point. Holding slack and jiggling the rod tip let me get a drag free drift til I couldn't see the boober anymore. Yes I have done it allnow, even a hero drift! The teardrop boober was floating with the large end downriver(either it was dragging slightly, never hung bottom, or not enough weight,1 #3/0 about 1 foot above the egg fly.Not much line to floss them with. Just after it hit the connection it righted itself, stood straight up 3 drifts in a row just long enough to drop hard out of sight. Then nothing for about a half hour til I left.

Were you ther Thursday morning. I was the person second highest on the south side. Got to fish down through the hole about half way one time before it recrowded. Guisness hat. Say hi next time. Always willing to share water. Up at the head where the backwater flows it is nonstop OUTRIGHT LIFTING. As I said in my first post I hooked 1 fish (south side) all morning and that was as I reeled up to leave. Saw 1 fairly hooked fish all morning. Wouldn't say people were lifting everywhere but they were doing the powerswing into the fish and setting the hook. I was feeling body bumps on at least half my drifts but they had lockjaw so I never set the hook once all morning. Note to the gut flossing the fast water above the pool. Shut up it doesn't matter if you had a steelhead or a coho. Neither was fished to fairly.

my weekend trip to the SR hs turned into a nightmare changing ALL brake lines on the Subaru.. Great report WB and seems now that you put an indie on are a hero .. As said I don't use them often and only when necessary but when done right it works for detecting a strike, not a lining tool.. SOOOOOOO... any chance you can fish with me on Weds ?? I will be in salmon country looking for trout myself but my friend wants a shark to feed his old man.. Thinking myself working Pineville down to Ace or any other area is cool with me..

Ya thats why I fished the bridge pool in the LFZ and didn't work to hard at landing those fish. Thanks for your concern DB. I should know more by then to make the decision. I don't mind walking slow and fishing second water.

Guys I've been to my primary and had a doppler on my neck. Just got told to not over do it. I'd like to think if there was real concern I'd have been googling from the hospital not waiting till the 6th for testing. Thank you all for your thoughts. My wife made me sign a prenup saying I'd live til she was fifty, so I intend to be around another 13 years minimum. I'm a man of my word.

Don't know if you're serious but the gauge in Pville say 433. Thats above where TB enters and all the little tickles below. Easy 500+ by the time it hits the estuary.

I don't know about the upper res being full. Reports were it was down as much as 11 feet. The lower res is another story. If the lower res is full a bit of release would be nice to help the fish get past the needle and up to Beaverdam brook.

Right- lot more likely that the lower has filled rather than the upper.

the SR drainage area did not get much rain, plus after the last couple dry months they had the ground is capable of holding quite a bit of water - they need to get bombed to fill upper res - long term forecast does not show heavy rains anytime soon.

The summer flow rate was determined by the rate of inflow by the creeks on the tug. I believe it was determined that that inflow would be just under the 185cfs flows mandated in all but the worst of drought years. The slight difference could be maintained because of the holding capacity of the upper res. With the constant 335cfs that has been flowing it has been bleeding the res since early sept. It will take a decent amount of rain to refill ( or perhaps we will not ever see a higher flowrate until the first good thaw ). The rains that have finaly been falling should be more than enough to maintain the prestent flow regime. I personaly like this flow as it is more than enough for even kings to move on easily and easily fished with minimal weight. Crowds of salmon slashers are the problem and as the kings die away and the weather chills those traditionally lessen. There are far more steelbow fishers than ever before but for the large part know enough to stand back and fish making for less spooky(but educated) rainheads.

agreed with the water flows lee; plenty of water, but as you said it is bleeding the reservoir out and even before it increased 335; even the 185 over the summer was bleeding it out as well... i am just hoping its not going to be a 185 winter... that for sure will ice up the lower end earlier than normal... im banking on november being a wet month for redfield; or i should rather say hoping...

Agreed but I think at the current flow is now being offset by the tug runoff. If this wrap around noreaster hits the tug with some of its heavier downpours it will go a long way towards keeping the present baseflow sustainable. Or should I say hoping. Is there a crossed fingers icon anywhere?
